I would rather not have the government regulate something like this, but the fact is many parents do not use common sense. Children who work on farms are at greater risk of injury and death. The regulations would have simply prevented children under the age of 16 operating motorized machinery and would have prevented children under the age of 18 working in stock yards.

I always had money growing up working on local farms. From tobacco, hay, feeding and milking, painting, mending, and clearing fences. That is how we paid the rent because my parents were sick and couldn’t work. I paid for my sister’s field trips and clothes. No one ever went hungry. I started doing this type of work when I was 9 years old. It was hard because farmers didn’t want to hire a girl but I showed them that I was as tough as any boy was and I would not stop until the job was done. That is why as an adult I understand how important education is. Without it I would be forced to try to find that kind of work again and to tell you the truth it is too hard.

Amen to that, kids are so coddled now, letting them lay around watching t.v, playing video games, are not doing them any favors, when real life hits them they are gonna be so unprepared for the hard work they are gonna be in for, I know people are gonna say their kids are gonna go to college but that is no guarantee they will get an "easy" job' not in this economy.
