Hmm. Watched the Frontline show. I think I've seen parts of it before. My thoughts:

1) Any defense atty. worth his salt would have asked that the trial be moved to another jurisdiction. Small town gossip will pollute a jury pool in a matter of hours. Especially when children are dead.
2) My father, who I loved more than anything on earth died when I was 17. After a protracted bought with cancer. I went out that night just to get my mind off of things and get away from my crazy family so that's not abnormal in my mind so much. His wife also went so where was the wayward eye regarding her behavior. Yes, him trying to purchase darts was a bad move but their presence would be somewhat expected at a benefit to bury their children, right? I'm from the city so I don't know small town protocol.
3) If indeed, the man woke up to fire and the wife had just gone out for Christmas shopping why was SHE not a suspect? She was abused, the sole breadwinner, and from one account I read a while back had intentions of leaving the marriage before the fire. She may have thought everyone would be better off in heaven.
4) Why do we keep re-electing Rick Perry? He's an airheaded douche with absolutely no moral character to speak of.
5) Do municipalities have any sort of continuing ed. requirements for ppl who investigate fires/arson? If not, we should.

I still am not convinced the guy was innocent but the whole pentagram/satan worshiping thing just makes us all look like a bunch of backward, superstitious hillbillys. And if the def. atty. didn't object to that outside of an opening or closing arguments where he could not, then he's an idiot and should be disbarred.

And, as a side note, don't be a bubba and beat your wife/screw around b/c you never know when your house will burn down! Plus, it's just tacky and wrong to do so.

They are: "a bunch of backward, superstitious hillbillys."

They did try to stop the death sentence but they couldn't...

There certainly seems to have been flawed science in the investigation of this case. I never understood what would have been the problem with delaying the execution until every aspect of this case was fairly investigated.

I agree and when someone's life is on the line, the top experts should be called in. I'm not dissing our fire inspector but it didn't sound like he was current on the latest research. I'm sure this guy was a crappy husband and kind of an SOB but I do think there is doubt here and justice may not have been served. We'll never know now though.

Sorry but I thought you had said Athiest not Irreligion. You may need to try to educate yourself before educating others. I do still value all or most oppinions in any case.

First, I didn't mean to condescend. Apologies if I did.

So, let's talk about Atheism. Is it a religion? Consider:

The saying is "If Atheism is a religion, then not playing baseball is a sport."

A religion has two components which must both be present. It is a formalized system of ritual and belief. It is focused on a supernatural being or beings.

The absence of belief is a benign, non-active status. There is no "belief system" involved. There is no "system" of Atheistic belief: no rituals, no practices, no rules, no set of doctrines or dogma.

At its most basic level, Atheism is the absence of belief in the supernatural.

I think you should google that one. Atheism is a religion. If you believe the courts it is. Atheist dont believe in God, nothing to do with supernatural.

1. The court ruled that atheism is a religion "for legal purposes."

They said: "... whether atheism is a 'religion' for First Amendment purposes is a somewhat different question than whether its adherents believe in a supreme being, or attend regular devotional services, or have a sacred Scripture."

2. God IS supernatural.

3. "Many Christians seem to believe that atheism is a religion, but no one with a fair understanding of both concepts would make such a mistake."

While I agree that atheism is not a religion. I do see where ppl who say it is are coming from. The absolute certainty that God does not exist is almost faith like with some atheists. And many are adamant and verbal about it to the point of annoyance. Some are quite arrogant towards those who do believe. That is why I identify as agnostic. Who am I to tell another person that what they hold so dearly is a complete and utter fabrication? How can I be certain. So I agree w/ Sheesh but understand where LBAO is coming from.

Wikipedia says; Agnosticism is the view that the truth value of certain claims—especially claims about the existence or non-existence of any deity, but also other religious and metaphysical claims—is unknown or unknowable.

That's where I come down on it, too. I never said I was a atheist.
