18 year olds are too young to be responsible.

Im barely 30, so 12 years wasnt that long ago. I go to the bar now and most 21 year olds cant handle their booze and act reasonable. dont legally put beers in the hands of an 18 year old...

That argument made some sense when there was a draft. Not any longer. You can volunteer to do anything you chose to volunteer for, but the fact remains that 18 year olds have no business drinking. The traffic fatality rates went through the roof during the experiment with 18 year old drinking. Forget about it, kid. Be grateful you have the right to vote,(which most of you don't bother to do).

21 is fine. It isn't wrong for 18 year-olds to drink in my opinion, but allowing them to purchase it would give high school kids more access to alcohol, which we don't want. People who think the law should be 18, just think; it's not that difficult to get alcohol when you're 18, especially if you go to college.

The National Minimum Age Drinking Act of 1984 wasI introduced in the Senate Sen. Frank Lautenberg (Democrat-NJ) on June 26, 1984. Under the law a state with a minimum age below 21 would be subjected to a ten percent decrease in its annual federal highway apportionment.
The law passed with bipartisan support on a voice vote. They used the power of the Federal government and tax dollars to influence states behavior. Truly a conservative victory.

WTF are you talking about? Most states went to age 18 in the early 70's. Iowa was 18 in 1973.

You're too stupid to breathe. The National Minimum Age Drinking Act of 1984 was the law that coerced states into adopting the 21 year old drinking age. Reread the post, imbecile.

"the experiment with 18 year old drinking." Started in the early 70's. Reread what you wrote, imbecile. Pull the pipe out, it's clouding your mind.

That was the idea in the early 70's when several states tried the experiment, but there were many road deaths. Maybe if you are serving our country and 18, you should be allowed to drink. But not the rest of the 18 year old's.

I bartend and the immaturity I see from some of the 21 year olds I couldn't imagine having 18 yr olds in the bar. At 18 you are not developed enough to take on the responsibilities of drinking and be trusted to make good decisions like not to drink and drive.

For centuries kids have been drinking from adolescence. I think with parental supervision and involvement, lowering the drinking age could be appropriate.
I am not a big fan of germany but they have a lower drinking age and there kids seem to be well adjusted,at least the ones I have met.
