Prohibition just does't work. All anti-drug laws do, and that includes drinking age laws, are create a "forbidden fruit" factors and cultures of crime around the use of the drug. There should be no drinking age law at all.

I think dumb kids should start drinking as early as possible. They are more likely to get themselves killed that way and make room for smarter kids who will prove useful to the human species.

Lower the age to 10. If you disagree with me, why do you disagree? Because they can't drive? Well, if people are going to get drunk wouldn't you rather they could NOT drive? I think drinking should be ILLEGAL over the age of 15.

It is the most ridiculous thing in the world to have a drinking age that is 3 years higher than the age at which you become a legal adult. It's been 21 in the U.S. for so long now that some people are starting to believe that you don't become fully legal until you are 21. NO! You're an adult, booze or no booze, at 18.(Would parents want to be legally responsible for their children until they're 21?) Now, here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, the drinking age has been 18 since 1970, so there are NO police resources being wasted on raiding college parties and busting legal adults between 18-21 for the "offense" of drinking alcohol. Here, you're an adult at age 18, PERIOD. No problems whatsoever - the vast majority of car crashes and deaths due to alcohol here are caused by people over 21. And here, some people get boozing and partying out of their system by the time they're 20, or 21, or 22, so there are no 21- or 22- or 23-year old teenagers here. And certainly, adults between 18-21 come up here from North Dakota/Minnesota all the time to go clubbing. It's so painful to watch the Campus PD show and see adults busted for something that is, to us Manitobans, perfectly legal, and has been forever. Also to watch Haley's current storyline in Modern Family. Thank God all those CW shows like Gossip Girl and 90210 ignore the U.S. drinking age of 21.(i.e., those characters are all 19 or 20 and have no problem getting served anywhere.) Everyone reading this come up here and observe our culture, then do what it takes to get your law changed. Ronald Reagan made the drinking age national, and raised it to 21. He's dead now.

But if we let people drink at a younger age, how will we convince them that booze is some kind of forbidden fruit, and then get them hooked on cheap microbrewed swill like Bud and PBR by the time they are finally 21? Come on, support the mega corporations!

Well, that happens here in Winnipeg, too, but it's the 16- and 17-year olds who are underage. I was at dozens of drinking parties when I was 18 and 19 when all the below-18s had to get someone over 18 to buy beer for them. I can't remember if I ever did that. Maybe once or twice. No one thought much about it because almost none of them were driving. You can drive with a learner's permit with an adult at 16, but no one owns a car that young. It was mostly someone 18 or 19 driving a car/van full of people around to parties in some form.

That, by the way, is why I'm all for raising the drinking age ridiculously high to drive the point home. Raise it to 30, raise it to 40, raise it to 50. Let all of society feel how ridiculous it is, then maybe they'll never allow anything as hypocritical again.
