I think people abuse it at a young age.

This argument has been going on since I was in High School Class of '62. It will never be settled to the satisfaction of either point of view. For me, 18 year olds as a group are not sufficiently responsible to handle alcohol, drugs, or cell phones while driving.

Other countries that have much lower age limits also have much lower abuse rates. The key is the age litmus, you tell a teenager they cant do someting and they are going to do it, that simple.

I would have to say no. It's to easy to get in to that grove of drinking beers after work, school, what have you. It starts out harmless enough but could easily become a nasty habit before you even realize the damage it maybe causing or caused already.

Also the human brain is still developing up to the age of 25 I believe. So for all it's worth for you people under 21 don't be in a hurry to grow up. More importantly don't be in hurry to reach the legal drinking age just so you can loaded. Let the brain develop after all you'll be depending on it for years to come. Stay Staff

I guess it alright to put a rifle in their hands and send them off to war eh!

That too has been an ongoing argument - the actions of young military personnel when allowed access to alcohol highlights the age restriction wisdom. Military towns are rife with incidents of military personnel "bad behavior."
As for 18 year olds in the military, their activity is closesly supervised, and exhaustive training is given military personnel in the use, care, and responsibility for firearms. Training is focused on responsibile actions and ethics, and instilling an "espirit de corps".
Not so for turning a "green" teen-ager loose on the roads with a bottle in her/his hands. Comparing that to military service is a continually losing argument.

Because at the age of 21 your barely mature enough to make wise choises and when your 18 your still a child even if that is the legal adult age your not wise enough to make important decisions like to drive or not dont need young kids ending there life just for the chance to drink.

Giving kids time to mature before given to opportunity to drink and drive.

I believe kids should be able to drink alcohol at home under their parents supervision. At 18 they know how to get alcohol if they really want it, but spacing it out a bit I think gives them a little more time to get their responsibilities in order first before they can casually walk into a bar, waste all their money, and get hammered.
