There is no good, sensible, non-emotional, reason NOT to drop the age of alcohol consumption. MADD will tell you that the streets are filled with drunk drivers. They are the crazy ones.

You have any facts to support that view?
Ever lost a loved one to a drunk driver?

If drinking were less taboo, I think people wouldn't be in such a rush to get to it. The being able to serve and not drink is a pretty valid argument. You are either considered an adult or you are not. Some people are responsible and some aren't. Teaching responsibility seems to be the more important step.

If you're old enough to be tried as an adult, or serve in the military, then you are an adult and should be responsible for your own decisions both good and bad.

You are right. But instead of lowering the drinking age they should raise the age to join the military to 21.

There is NO good reason to bring high schoolers closer to alcohol

'WE' try teaching responability about sex & look how many children are having children. Many can't even avoid STD's. NOT having children & AVOIDING STD's is really quite simple. But the youth have a very difficult chore controlling emotions & hormones. That's just the way it is. We were ALL young once so let's not try fooling ourselves or going into denial.

So you want to add more drunk drivers at ages 18,19, & 20 ?!? That is not sensible.
Most have little trouble getting alcohol with it being illegal & you want to open the door further?

Other countries have lower drinking ages and higher ages for driving. It seems to work for them the problem is our culture other cultures give a glass of wine or alcohol with dinner their kids are not running around looking for alcohol because its acceptable for them to drink it kinda takes the thrill of it away when its not considered rebellious.

If you are old enough to serve and die for your country, you should have the right to have a drink in it!

I am old enough to have bought 3.2 beer legally at age 18. There are emotional arguements to lower the age but there is no reasonable arguement. we do not need to add 10's of thousands of drinking teens to the roadways. When you find that someone in your family or group of friends died because of drunk driving or is permantly disabled, disfiguared or emotionally scarred by a teen, you will change your mind.
There is research that states that the younger the drinker in this country, the lower thier control of alcohol later in life.
The jails will be fuller, courts & lawyers, hospitals & funeral homes will be busier. I am sure that no study can refute this statement.

Very true, but to fix that we should raise the age to join the military to 21, not lower the drinking age to 18.

Many young men & women join the military to learn a trade, get education benefits, a G.I. loan later or whatever so why make them wait until 21 to start on that path?

Yeah, trades like firing a mortar, driving a tank - real useful later on.

You figure the military's main use is an educational and jobs program?

Why not an economy and schools that can provide those things without getting children killed?

The only reason to have a military is to kill people and destory their weapons.
