Parents should educate their children on responsible drinking and moderation. It's the rebellious aspect that creates more danger than if they can learn early about alcohol safety. 18 year olds are considered legally old enough to drive, serve in the armed forces, get married, and vote in elections but they are not responsible enough to drink? 18 (and even 16) year olds learn responsibility with alcohol in Canada, Australian, and all across Europe. This is merely a holdout from ill-guided Prohibition-era legislation that was geared towards avoiding alcohol abuse with a decidedly anti-immigrant undertone. It speaks to the America of the early 20th century, not the early 21st.
