I think if this passes it might cause "gays" to get hurt and possibly killed in the military. maybe they should keep it to themselves like they always have. no one likes a softy in the military, especially on the battlefield.

I can't expect that man, that has desired a relationship with a man or woman who shares the battlefield, to use sound judgment.

IMO of course...

just think , no more lonely nights for those away from thier wives and girl friends, instead of the usual prostitues at the off post honky tonks with the usual risks of STDs . now they have substitutes with risk of AIDS. don't worry tho the local V.A. hosp. will treat them. also wonder how many will apply for Medical discharge because of being infected while servicing fellow servicemen-women.

What makes you think a gay guy in the service is a "softy"?

All you lazy, cousin fvcking idiots on here are unwilling to do what these gay soldiers are doing. They are willing to sign up to go into a military that they know will discriminate against them, where they could likely face the chance of dying overseas, and they're catching grief. If you were less busy impregnating your closest family member, using drugs, collecting welfare, beating your kids in Wal-Mart, and watching Larry the Cable Guy, then maybe YOU could take that gay person's place. I doubt you have the balls to sign up though.

Having limp wrist polices like this shoved down my throat is one of the reasons I left the service when my hitch was up, and didnít reenlist. So get off your soap box, and cry to your gay friends that care after you get through doing your drugs that enable you to work up the courage to post something that stupid.

Sigh...prejudice once again reigns supreme...

Gays have always served in the military. Some of the greatest generals the world has known were gay.

Gaius Julius Caesar, Alexander of Macedonia, also known as Alexander the Great, are but two of the most famously known.

WWII I know of at least ONE gay paratrooper who was highly decorated for his bravery. Everyone in his troop knew he was gay and NO ONE SAID A WORD, even when he was discharged, honorably, and wanted to kiss them all good by.

Don't ask, don't tell, left it open for phobias to have free reign, at least if they are allowed to be open about their preferences phobias will no longer have an excuse to unjustly place suspicion, just because someone looks or moves a bit differently.

I see a lot of focus on male enlistees, I guess women just aren't as worried over it as men.

Being a Military member, I can tell you that DADT was a blessing to a gay Service member. Just wait till they see the regulations that being a Open Gay member will entail, they'll wish it was back to the way it was before. It will be so easy for them to be accused of harassment and charged under UCMJ. All they have to do is look at a straight member and they'll be prosecuted. In the past a member was presumed to not be gay, because being gay was not allowed, now they can be persumed to be gay, because it's allowed.

The Military is not a place for Social Experiments. It has a job to do and that does not include making people happy about their sexuality. There are 1,000's of jobs in the military and some places a gay might fit, but not in Combat Arms. 1 out of 10 never fire a weapon except on a range.

You take 9 straight soldier's in a rifle squad and put in one openly gay man, you have a problem and they won't last long. Life in the military is about cohesion, this will not take place with a gay person, it's about being willing to give your life for another. Sometimes this has to occur in a very short period of time. Example : you lose 3 men in a firefight, the next day you receive 3 replacements. Those replacements have to bond and be accepted instantaneously, because that same day you might be in battle again. Been there done that and I'll tell you, when your life is on the line, you do what you have to do and you'll not let someone else get you killed, you take action. Misfits do not last, be it someone from the ghetto in Detroit, a gay from Atlanta or a pot smoker from Podunk. I hope they issue them a pink Body Bag to send them home in.

It has worked in the past, however, we as a country have moved forward w/ the times and it no longer matters to the majority what people do in their private life..

Being queer, don't make them special. Let them go risk getting their rear end shot off just like the straight people do. As far as telling the military that they are queer is just plain stupid. As far as that goes why do they want to tell? Wouldn't it be stupid for the straight people to declare, HEY, I AM NOT A QUEER/

I have no problem with a gay man fighting by my side in a theater of war. He bleeds just like me and I would be honored. The problem with gays in the military occurs when it is time to take a shower. The gay individual obtains a free peep show unknowingly to other soldiers. This infringes on the privacy of straight individuals because whether or not the gay man is caught peeping or looking unappropriately at others in the shower he is preforming sexual harrassment in his mind. Since I am a straight man I do not get to shower with the sex I am attracted to so why should it be any different for people who are gay. This is why gay people must disclose their sexual prefrence.

I agree with the "Don't ask" part. I don't think it's anyone business what your sexual preference is. As far as the second half, "Don't tell", that should be left up to the individual.

I think the biggest problem might be the service member who is not gay and unless the Government takes harsh action against any discrimination, it could be a disaster.
