Don't Ask Don't Tell Debate - Laurel, MS
Should the US repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell?
#1 Dec 19, 2010
I believe the Holy Bible as God's Holy Word. I do not believe that homosexual activity is genetic or orientation but a choice a person makes, just like abusing drugs or drinking and driving or any number of other bad choices people make in their lifetimes. Tolerance for this is up to the individual and I have some friends that are gay and fantastic people. I don't agree with their lifestyle but still like them as individuals. The government should not be trying to legislate morality. These people are gay by choice. Racial inequality is different because it doesn't involve choice, people are the color they are. Homosexual activity is a choice. Keep it out of the military at least openly. Keep don't ask don't tell. Keep us all safe.

Because as an American citizen, I should have the right to serve my country in the armed services without worry of being vindicated on some witch hunt because of another's citizen personal feelings. People have the right to their opinions, but they do not have the right to influence law based on those opinions and not on facts.

It is immoral to tell another American citizen that he or she does not have rights because you feel differently. People have the right to serve openly in the armed services. You should be glad that you have people, gay and straight, willing to place their lives on the line in service from the very people who wishes to strip them of their rights as an American citizen. Sexual orientation is not a choice but it has a genetic disposition. You cannot compare substance abuse to one's sexual orientation. Substance abuse is self-destructing and is one's attempt to escape a fearful reality. People always want to throw the Holy Bible in someone's face, yet their own ignorance keeps them from loving and caring for their own brother and sister. Don't Ask Don't Tell was never right for the American people, just like segregation was not. It is easier for people to say that racial or gender inequalities were bad because people didnt have a choice, but to demonize people based on their feelings for another is not a choice. Your hateful feelings towards gay people is a choice. Try changing your thoughts and feelings so you too may see God once more. These bigoted feelings indicate to me that one can carry their Bible and still not be a Christian. You don't have to like me but I'm still be respected and loved as an American citizen according to our Constitution and as a brother according to our Holy Bible.

Manny, I am in the business so I know about protecting freedom for all Americans. I never said I hated anyone, in fact I did state that I have friends that are homosexual. I know it is not right for the military, it is a morale issue. Spout all you want about it being genetic, it is not genetic. Go back through your statement while you are at it. You claim I hate but find one thing I said to indicate hate towards anyone. You also say I demonize people, I did not and I do not. According to the Bible it is sin, not according to my word but the word of God. Live how you want, that is your choice. I'm okay with that. Combat is different and that should be a no brainer. Think what you will, no hate here, just concern according to one subject, not all subjects, just one subject and that is the subject of military morale and safety and effectiveness.
