Should the US repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell?
#1 Jan 18, 2011
That's a loaded question. I really don't have an answer, but rather mixed thoughts. I cand see both sides of the coin here. Both sides have valid points. Personally, I don't think anyone should have to hide who they are. Gay or not. THey should be proud of who they are and not be afraid of anyone discriminating against them. I believe they can do their jobs just as well as the next person. Regardless if it's tacticle or not. But I think if this was repealed and people started coming out, then it would cause a lot of problems with the cohesivness of our troops. There are a lot of homophobes in the military that would either quit because this was repealed or would cause problems for the gays. There are a lot of guys that flat do not want to be near a gay person, much less in a foxhole with them or sharing quarters with them, taking showers with them. I think repealing this would in the long run, weaken our troops, therefore our defense.
I think the homophobes just need to grow up and realize the gays aren't out to terrorize them. It's not a disease they are going to contract. And that homesexuals are just as valuable to our military as they are. Homosexuals would have their back in battle, but would the homophobe have their back?
