DADT opponents impugn Conaway’s prediction of segregation in military based on sexuality

Critics say repeal will save millions of dollars, not cost money as Conaway stated

By Mary Tuma | 01.03.11 | 6:00 pm

Years spent fighting to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell” have finally yielded results for advocacy groups, who are celebrating the victory after a long struggle to ensure open service by gay and lesbians in the armed forces. Yet, the residual effects of the repeal have opponents conjuring scenarios that critics say are nonsensical and born from fear and bigotry, signaling their advocacy work is not over.

Specifically, DADT opponents continue to impugn prediction of gay/straight segregation made by U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway of Texas, picked by House Republicans to lead the 22-member transition team. Conaway is senior Republican on the House Armed Services Committee’s Defense Acquisition Reform Panel and will chair a House Agriculture Committee panel. According to the Houston Chronicle, Conaway “may be the most important Texas lawmaker you don’t yet know.”

Recently, Conaway, who voted against repealing the 17-year-old policy that bans gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military, said the rollback would result in an unnecessary increase in defense spending, at a time when budgets need to be cut. The Midland Republican predicted excess spending would result from segregated barracks and bathrooms that would likely be created for service members uneasy with the new policy.

“You’re going to accommodate folks’ preferences as to whether or not they want to be in the same sleeping arrangements or bathroom facilities, all those kinds of things,” he told Scripps reporter Trish Choate, according to the Wichita Falls Times Record News.

Chuck Smith of LGBT rights group Equality Texas said Conaway’s concerns were not germane to the repeal of DADT and highly inaccurate.

“There is really no special treatment or separate accommodations,” Smith said.“Service members are going to continue to do their job and sexual orientation is not going to play a part in sleeping or shower situations.”

The arguments are nonsense, says Denny Meyer, national public affairs officer of American Veterans for Equal Rights. Not only are the majority of showers closed-off in the armed forces today, but DADT’s repeal would actually alleviate spending as the Department of Defense loses millions from the policy. A 2006 Palm Center blue ribbon commission report found about $360 million had been spent on enforcing ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ through discharging and replacing service members from its enactment in 1994 to 2003. The study also discovered the figure was 91 percent more than what was initially reported by the Government Accountability Office.

“People who cannot express progress are tying any major issue Americans are concerned about, like the economy and the budget, to fan the flames of bigotry and get attention,” said Meyer, who served a decade in the armed forces.

An estimated 13,500 service members have been discharged under DADT, including 730 mission critical soldiers and more than 65 Arabic and Farsi linguists.

Nancy Russell, a retired Lt. Colonel in the Army and 20-year activist against DADT, said the measure has only helped drain defense spending as training costs for booted out senior service members is hefty. Russell compared the shower hysteria to the early misconception that AIDS could be contracted via swimming pools.

“There is a great deal of ignorance about the circumstances,” Russell said.“Most soldiers, marines and sailors do not see it as a problem and the military has said they don’t recommend separate facilities.”

Gays out of the closet with all its gay pride still displays such horrendous claustrophobia.

If one mentions the high rate of gay suicide gays think you endorse their suicide. If one mentions Islam's eradication of homosexuals, gays whine that you applaud it.

Case in point gays are uncomfortable in their own skin and their claustrophobia is strangling them, so their only antidote is to seek acceptance in an endeavor to silence the demons in their head.

In order for America to survive it must not embrace homosexual perversion. Historically homosexuality has always appeared & festered as a plague eroding family values, faith, morality, & the normal way of life.

Islam is witness to the eroding effects and dangers of the homosexual infestation and plague that appears at the demise of a nation, culture or empire. So Islam 1/5th of the world’s population in 55 countries drag their gay men & lesbian women kicking & screaming to soccer fields to beat them and lop off their heads. This should not be viewed as barbaric but as a way to preserve their culture from erosion.

I've always supported the repeal of the DADT Policy and gay marriage for the simple reason it is documentation that is necessary to have homosexuals on legal paper forms.

As America witnesses the dangerous side effects of homosexuality, it will have the necessary forms of documentation to have homosexuals removed, arrested, and taken to re-education camps for reparative therapy or execution in order to preserve America and it's core values, & besides lethal injections seem a bit more civil.

Homosexuality is a mental disorder spawned out of child rape, incest, and abuse that can easily be debunked by Gustavo with the simple use of the dictionary by looking up the word pervert. It’s not hateful to disapprove of a grotesque and deviant behavior; it's merely ethical, moral, normal, and patriotic.

Gays are only a meagerly 3% pesky corrupt infestation trying to make perversion acceptable.

Our Rep. Conaway’s prediction of segregation is logical and accurate, after all what normal serviceman would ever want to sleep in the same room with a pervert much less shower with one.

Let the perverted homosexuals serve openly in the military, they can be used as useful idiots in harm’s way instead of servicemen with spouses and children, but for God’s sake make the perverted homosexuals be confined to their own showers and barracks.

Poor, poor sick Steve gay men sexualize human waste then turn around and demand respect.

Viva Congressman Mike Conaway!

In Flip-Flop, John McCain Supports DADT Repeal

01/06/11-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire

If you don’t like John McCain’s position on something, just wait five minutes. The Senator from Arizona went from supporting the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell to being opposed to it to being for it again. In fact, Senator McCain did everything including trying to tell people who the repeal of DADT would lead to Marines getting their limbs blown off. Now, on Fox Business (which is, amazingly, still there) he said “I think I have to do everything I can to make sure that the impact on the morale, retention, recruitment and battle effectiveness of the military is minimized as much as possible. It is a law and I have to do whatever I can to help the men and women who are serving, particularly in combat, cope with this new situation. I will do everything I can to make it work.”

The 2008 Presidential candidate was probably trying to play to his base by hating on lesbians and gays. In fact, he is starting to soften his language towards the Obama Administration, perhaps because he has decided that there’s more of a chance to work with Obama, the man who beat him in the 2008 election, than there is with the people who shout things over the reading of the Constitution, a political show that cost tax payers around $1 million.

Still, as Jon Stewart pointed out last night with the introduction of the McCain Muppet, Senator McCain is still angry over the fact that he was not elected president.

Our military is not meant to be a vehicle for social change. Our military is charged with one goal to defend our nation. To subordinate it to any other aim, to politicize it in the service of some sort of social goal, shows reckless disregard for our security. Homosexuals are a corrupt infestation that erodes family values, faith, morality, patriotism and the American way of life. I can see now just how easy it must have been for Hitler to convince the Fatherland that exterminating homosexuals is the best way to preserve ones national sovereignty.

Republican Senators Block Pay Discrimination Measure

By CARL HULSE
Published: April 24, 2008

WASHINGTON — Senate Republicans on Wednesday blocked a measure intended to overturn a Supreme Court decision limiting pay discrimination suits in a politically charged vote certain to be replayed in the presidential and Congressional campaigns.

By a vote of 56 to 42, the Senate fell four votes short of the 60 required to begin consideration of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, named for an Alabama woman who lost a case against the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company when the court found she not did file her complaint in time. Ms. Ledbetter had been paid as much as 40 percent less than her male counterparts doing the same job, according to her allies.

The political elements of the debate were unmistakable. Unable to reach an agreement with Republicans, Democrats did not convene the Senate until 5 p.m. so their two presidential candidates — Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois — could return from the campaign trail. Both spoke in favor of the legislation.

The campaign arm of Senate Democrats quickly issued news releases attacking Republicans up for re-election who opposed the procedural vote. And Democrats warned Republicans that they would hear from voters on an issue of major import to women as they accused Republicans of missing an opportunity to help victims of pay discrimination pursue justice in court.

“I have a terrible feeling the Senate just won’t get it,” said Senator Barbara Mikulski, Democrat of Maryland, who suggested that the still-male-dominated Senate remained out of touch about the nation’s changing workplaces.“But the women will get it, and we will start a revolution.”

Westboro Baptist Church
About WBC

The Topeka, Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) is a small virulently homophobic, anti-Semitic hate group that regularly stages protests around the country, often several times a week. The group pickets institutions and individuals they think support homosexuality or otherwise subvert what they believe is God’s law.

Incorporated in 1967 as a not-for-profit organization, WBC considers itself an “Old School (or Primitive)” Baptist Church. WBC’s leader is Fred Phelps and several of his children and dozens of his grandchildren appear to constitute the majority of the group’s members. WBC has no official affiliation with mainstream Baptist organizations.

While WBC members have protested at Jewish institutions over the years, such institutions were not a major focus for the group until April 2009. Since then, WBC has targeted dozens of Jewish institutions around the country, from Israeli consulates to synagogues to Jewish community centers, distributing anti-Semitic fliers to announce planned protests at these sites. WBC has also been sending volumes (in some cases dozens over the course of a week) of faxes and emails with anti-Semitic and anti-gay messages to various Jewish institutions and individuals.

In addition, in April 2010, the group began mailing a virulently anti-Semitic DVD to Jewish organizations and leaders. The DVD also attacks President Obama, describing him as the anti-Christ, and is filled with anti-gay and anti-Catholic vitriol.

Other WBC targets include schools the group deems to be accepting of homosexuality; Catholic, Lutheran, and other Christian denominations that WBC feels are heretical; and funerals for people murdered or killed in accidents like plane crashes and for American soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, a tactic the group started in 2005. Though the group's specific focus may shift over time, they believe that nearly all Americans and American institutions are “sinful,” so nearly any individual or organization can be targeted.
Shirley Phelps-Roper

In fact, WBC members say that “God’s hatred is one of His holy attributes” and that their picketing is a form of preaching to a “doomed” country unable to hear their message in any other way.

Most homosexuals claim with a lot of enthusiasm that abortion is acceptable, and also claim that they were born gay, so I add the two together and that brings aborting gay fetuses into focus which results in causing gays to become perplexed as they squeal "THAT'S HATEFUL!!!" I only smile because it's the only time homosexuals see abortion as being wrong.

Just think with early detection researchers could detect a gay gene thus offering heterosexual parents the option to abort the gay fetus. Come on what self-respecting loving mother would ever want to give birth to a gay baby? Annnnd if aborted it would alleviate the enormous amount of embarrassment, shame, guilt, and grief a normal family endures for having and raising a gay misfit.

Abortion is legal why not put it to good use.

It's not hateful to disapprove of homosexuality it's merely ethical, moral, normal, and patriotic.

And why is this still being debated? Wasn't the law repealed? The issue must really stir up the emotion in you. Just go to any military recruiting station and spill it all out. You'll feel better.

It's an honest question. There are all kinds of hardcore raging homophobes on this forum.

It varies from fairly literate satire by Gustavo to illiterate white trash ravings from Red Chin, but the one thing all these posts have in common is the idea that heterosexuals are vulnerable to turning homosexual.

It's hard to understand this kind of reasoning.

Of course, my opinion is that most of the raging homophobes here are self-loathing closet gays whose religious upbringing makes it almost impossible to accept their own true nature and sexual orientation. Because they desperately fight their secret impulses, it is easy for them to believe that everyone else must also guard against homosexual desires.

Son Leaves “America’s Most Hated Family,” And God, Behind (Leanne Larmondin/Religion News Service/The Houston Chronicle; May 20)

When Nate Phelps’ son was about 5 years old and had been caught misbehaving, he taught his dad a lesson about ending the cycle of family abuse.

“I’d clung to the idea that corporal punishment was a requirement by God because that’s what we were taught,” said Phelps, who says he was raised amid harrowing abuse.

His son Hunter shook as he sat on his father’s lap.“I asked him why he was shaking, and he went on about how scared he was when I was going to spank him.”

Phelps decided not to use corporal punishment anymore. The incident more than 15 years ago was a turning point for Phelps.

When someone simply proceeds on the basis of "the Bible says it, so I'll do it," they are necessarily beginning from such an unreasonable and un-reasoned position that no serious or substantive discussion is likely to be possible.

Good legitimate reasons for homophobia and segregation.

Cryptosporidium, is a germ that causes diarrhea. This germ is found in the fecal matter of a person who has been infected by Crypto. It has a tough outer shell that allows it to survive for a long time in the environment. It can survive for days even in properly chlorinated pools.

The disease caused by infection with the germ Crypto is called cryptosporidiosis. Crypto is microscopic, so it can’t be seen with the naked eye.

Swallowing recreational water contaminated with Crypto. You share the water—and the germs in it—with every person who enters the pool. This means that just one person with diarrhea can easily contaminate the water. Swallowing even a small amount of pool water that has been contaminated with the Crypto germ can make you sick. Recreational water is water from swimming pools, hot tubs, fountains, lakes, rivers, springs, ponds, or streams that can be contaminated with sewage or feces from humans or animals.
http://www.cdc.gov/healthywater/swimming/rwi/...

Homosexuals are maggot infested, morally bankrupt, disease carrying, vial, fitly, cockroaches, with mental disorders suffering from inferior social disorders and are governed by hypersensitivity.

Homosexuals celebrate their diversity and love affair with fecal matter and become disturbed when frown upon. Homosexuals desperately try to ride the discrimination bandwagon but there’s nothing discriminatory with despising sodomites and their disease infested habits even if they call it homophobia.

There are many reasons to be homophobic another reason is heterosexual men go to prison and come out flamingboyfags proving homosexuality is spawned out of rape, incest, and abuse.

It's not hateful to disapprove of homosexuality it's merely ethical, moral, normal, and patriotic.
