Income inequality is poison to a democracy.

Extensive studies have been done world wide about the effects of income inequality..ie the gap between the rich and the poor...the shrinking middle class.

Studies have revealed states and nations with the most income inequality have more high school drop-outs, crime, infant motality, mental illness, domestic violence, etc...these are undeniable statistics.

Example: Alaska has the smallest gap and the HS drop out rate is 11%...compared to Mississippi with the largest gap and the drop out rate is 26%...those stats are across the entire US as well as the planet.

My brother and his wife make 6-7 figure incomes...they pay a 50% income tax rate. They pay it each and every year.

C'mon dude...people here are talking about Federal Income Taxes....not a combination of all fed, state, etc.

From what you said your brother is not considered rich by any means...the tax increase that have been suggested is on people's income after they have "earned" on million.

My son on the other hand, is way higher in income and he bitches like all the rest....but he also knows what's good for all is what's best long term for society.

Income equality can be achieved two ways...restrict what the top earners can make as was done in Japan or progressively tax the rich more....the most productive era this counrty ever experienced...after WW II , 50's, 60's and part of the 70's the rich were taxed at 90% at times...of course after deductions the rate was around 50%....the limit seems to be 50%....if they are taxed over 50% the middle class suffers and the economy shrinks.

Capital gains at 15%

Highest federal rate is 35% on adjusted incomes over $400,000.00....deductions are so plentyful many wealthy families pay zero federal income tax....zero!

Hey Proud...maybe your brother has a stupid tax attorney....probably a Oklahoma or Arkansas educated whiz kid.

At a time when the middle class are hurting, I feel it would be a good time for them to pay a little more. For the high end it wouldn't change their way of life.

And in the same bill that would do this, they should make major budget cuts. We could quickly balance the budget. Pay down the debt and once that was done, we have massive tax cuts at all levels.

First, I wish I could trust Washington to follow the cuts. Neither party has controlled their spending. But I don't think either side would stick to it.

If we cut taxes now we should do it for the middle class. They are the biggest consumers. If they spend money then demand goes up and then supply goes up. We have more middle class. Demand increases even more. Economy comes back. The wealthy while taxed higher have more income.

Until there's campaign finance reform the rest of it is whistling past the graveyard. The bribery and extortion must be eliminated from the system or NOTHING will change.

The McCain-Feingold act at least was a start. But congress couldn't wait to kill it.

Because we all know corporations are people but Unions are only evil. Wha-ha-ha!

But as I have said in other posts greed is killing this country. How can we get a person to vote against someone giving them money? Like how do we get them to stop giving themselves a raise?

I don't see it happening. Makes me angry and sad.

The deficit and the national debt are little more than smoke and mirrors... they are smoke and mirrors that can kill our culture but aren't anything that a group of independent, honest "people's" representatives couldn't fix and control, if they weren't owned bu the the money folks.

It isn't rocket science, as they say but is it to an ignorant population while the puppet masters in DC do as they please.

1. Campaign finance reform.(take the money out of politics and the special interests will disappear)

2. Universal health care. It's idiotic being the ONLY industrialized country that doesn't have it...we pay more and get less than anyone. UHC would immediately fix the Medicare, medicate etc problems for the next 50 years.

3. Return to the pre-Bush taxes and spending with some imphasisd on waste

4. End the Empire expansion.....defend the USA, not Israel and their crimes

5. Real foreign deplimacy with what's best for all as the goal.

I agree with all of that. Except Israel and its crimes.

But we shouldn't defend Israel or other countries. We cannot police the world.

We need to quit giving money to other countries. We are borrowing money and giving it away. That's stupid. But a lot of the things we do are.

I am not an isolationist but we cannot do everything.

Have you actually thought about why you feel the way you do about Israel?

When Israel was established as a country in 1948 America wanted no more Jews period...neither did most European countries. If anything the majority of Americans were anti-Semitic.

Before I give you any more history I would be interested in how you arrived at your position about Israel and where do you get your news and information about Gaza, the West Bank and Palestine?

I get my information from different sources. I try to vary sources to get all sides of a discussion.

I generalized my opinion. In truth I do believe in Isreal's right to exist.

I don't like a lot of the things that Isreal does to the Palestinians. I believe they have kept them down. This is wrong.

But as for a lot of the problem, I can't see the Palestinians as totally sympathetic figures. They are constantly killing Isrealis. Imagine if Mexico started bombing us. We would wipe them off the map.

If the Palestinians would go to peaceful protests, I would be more likely to support sanctions or such on Isreal. They are there whether their neighbors like it or not.

But we also shouldn't be so strong in our support of Isreal either. I don't think giving them money or military protection is our responibility. Most of the US support of Isreal is religion based and I don't believe that we are a theocracy, so, it is an invalid argument.

Thanks but that was a non answer answer.

Israel has a right to exist. I don't think any sane person is denying that...but so does Palestine...and I believe at the 1967 borders. Are you aware of the thousands of settlements built on what is supposed to be Palestinian land?...and who decided what was Israel and what was Palestine...a bunch a white guys that won a war. Based on what...Old Testament bullshit? The Jews and their "promised land" is a farce...these nomad tribes were more barbaric than civilized...they wondered into Egypt for a few hundred years then back to Palestine and then spread out all over Europe and Russia........what makes a Hebrew a Jew...theres no common bloodline, only Judaism which only 20% even attend synagogue

BTW Palestinians are armed with rocks for the most part...Israel has a first class military provided by the US tax payers....as well as WMD in nuclear....so who has the right to do what? Truthfully, isn't it about the Jesus connection?

Here's my take and the reason Jews were blended into American Christian-Judeo religion or heritage after WWII...something that did not exist prior to WWII....we were in a cold war with the Soviet Union....Israel would be a great strategically geographically location for the US thus the propaganda campaign began....an exaggerated Holocaust, blending of two opposite religions and for what....politics and protecting capitalism against advancing communism.

Israel was a useful idiot just as the ignorant masses are today and until people wake up and are aware of how they are duped every day,,,,nothing will change...income inequity and prostituted politicians has killed this country and is killing the planet.

Wow. Good answer.

For me it isn't about Jesus. I am not religious. I hate to see what is happening to the Palesteinians. They do deserve their own countrie at the original borders. The Israelis shouldn't have built settlements there.

I'm just saying the Palesteinians, are firing rockets and sending suicide bombers into the cities. I would feel better about demanding it for them if they could stop killing the Isrealis.

It is stupid that because of some ancient religious arguments they can't even come close to agreeing. And for the same reasons we blindly support Isreal.

But they will never agree.

As America always does...we create a monster that becomes uncontrollable 40-50 years later...we've done it all over the world.

Israel will either start WWIII or the combined Arab nations that surround them will wipe them out./...the only reason Israel lived in relative peace for the past 30 odd years was due to our support of military dictators in all the Arab countries that hate Israel.

We are Israels only friend...wonder why?
