Debt Ceiling Debate - Peekskill, NY
Should taxing the rich be part of the agreement to raise the debt ceiling?
#1 Jul 23, 2011
I don't necessarily agree that additional taxes are the way to go, but closing tax loopholes that allow the super wealthy to avoid paying less then middle class taxes have got to go. I also believe that there should be more tiers (or no tiers, with complicated rules)to the tax program... someone earning $200,000 in NYC is not rich by any means and should not be taxed the same as someone bringing in 1.5mm a year. It doesn't make sense. Our current tax system is structured in such a way as to keep the poor dependent on the government, keep the middle class supporting bloated government salaries and wasted spending on programs that serve only to keep politicians in office and the rich (and politicians) with the means to get richer.
