Gays are citizens. Separate but equal, is NOT constitutional. There is no legal nor rational basis to deny gay CITIZENS their right to marry. If 2 things are EXACTLY equal to each other, the name for each, is interchangeable. But NOT ONE Civil Union law in the U.S. is the EXACT EQUAL of marriage, so Civil Unions, are still discriminatory! The only options are to (a) strip marriage of all legal privileges and benefits,-or-(b) to grant marriage to gay/lesbian couples.
