Who will you blame if the debt ceiling isn't raised?
#1 Jul 30, 2011
Well, considering that Republicans have voted to raise it 7 times under Bush, with no discussion, and 97 current members of the house voted for those raises, we can assume it's the Republicans fault.
Fact: Never before has the debt ceiling been tied to the budget. These are 2 seperate issues. The debt ceiling has to do with paying past bills, money we've already spent. This "crisis" is self-inflicted.
Fact: During the Bush years, House Republicans took to the floor stating numerous times that raising the debt ceiling was not only necessary, but as a basic matter of responsibility and good governance.
Fact: Despite recent rhetoric from GOP lawmakers, Republican presidents have raised the statutory limit on U.S. debt by a much greater percentage than either of the two Democrats elected since 1981. According an analysis of historical data compiled on the statutory limit by the Office of Management and Budget, former President Ronald Reagan outstrips all other executives to date, increasing the debt ceiling by 199.5 percent during his eight years in office. He is followed by President George W. Bush, Jr. at a 90.2 percent increase over eight years and by President George H. Bush, Sr. at a 48.0 percent increase over only four years in office.
Fact: This is NOT a crisis. There is a simple solution that many Democrats, including President Obama, have called for. Raise the debt ceiling by passing a clean bill. The Republicans and especially the tea partiers have refused that option. If they would just do that, crisis solved. It would take a few minutes to do this. Since 1939, Congress has raised the debt limit 89 times. Thatís not a typo. The issue has come up 89 times, and in 89 instances, Congress passed a clean bill. In fact, in two-thirds of these instances, there was a Republican president, and no one ever used the vote as leverage for a reward.
So, I'm thinking that if this country falls apart and our dollar bill isn't worth the paper it's printed on, and interest rates on homes, cars, credit cards spike, and prices of food and gas go through the roof, we will have no one to blame but the party who seems to think they are all cartoon characters tied to the railroad tracks waiting to be rescued, when it's pretty obvious to the rest of us that if they tried, they could easily get their arms free. That party would be the crazy Republicans.

They want the country to fail, so they can blame the democrats for it. And they don't care what the cost is.
#3 Jul 31, 2011
Why not blame both as they both had a hand in it?
#4 Jul 31, 2011
Not really true!
The tea party group, would rather see the coutry go down in flames. Than to see any type of compromise. Other than, that! I think both side could come up with something.

Perhaps the tea party is just a eye opener and will cause everyone to pay more attention.

Perhaps the tea party group is really just a fake astro turf group founded by wealthy businessmen who have only their agenda on their minds.
Perhaps you are all being conned by a group who could care less about what is best for America and care only about gaining more power and wealth for the Koch Brothers.
The tea party isn't just going to get "our attention" they are going to destroy our economy.
Ron, don't you ever feel like there are only a small group of Americans who have any clue as to what is really going on in this country? It's frightening. I now fully agree 100 percent with Bill Maher when he says Americans are stupid. It's baffling how something so important to the future of this country doesn't immedidately cause the average American citizen to find out all the information about the subject that they can.(maybe they are too busy posting pictures of their pets on facebook) It's laziness and complacency. And it's the reason we are in this trouble.

All the time.
Very few people are aware of what is going on in this country!
They really are clueless.
The Koch boys of Wis., already have that state going down fast. Ask the seniors about their senior care. They lost or are going to loose. Paying a lot more for the health care, they should be getting free.
Walsh, up by Chicago. He loaned his own campain money and is just paying back the interest. He's getting rich off his donors.(tea party guy).
He also owes his wife back child support,$117,000.
The tea party group, doesn't care about you or america. They see a chance to get rich and get rid of a lot of laws. That will let them walk all over the rest of america.
Ask Sarah P., who was really calling the shots when she was Gov. of Alaska."Her or Todd". That's why she left. Everyone else knew it!
Uh huh--your right most of amercia is asleep at the wheel!!!!!!!!!!
The bad part is most of the tea party people in Washington today. Will tell you right up front. They would rather see America go down in flames than to compromise. Now how stupid is that, America. That's like, let me burn your home, put you out of a job, and take all your savings. But you should be happy I'm doing this.
And don't reply Obama is doing that to us now. This crap started in the early 80's under Ron R. and continued on through the Bush err.

All they care for is the rich, the rich get richer

If the tea party is so bad and so wrong, why do they keep growing and why are they having such an effect?
#10 Aug 2, 2011
tufs, DUDE! Check your facts, The tea party is shrinking, their approval numbers are falling fast and hard.
Their "rallies" manage to attract only a handful of people.
They are having so much effect because a small group of them (a minority) is threatening and bullying the entire Republican party. They are thugs and terrorist who use threats to get what they want. And they were willing to take the entire country down. They are that crazy and Republican leadership knows it.(Also, since when in a Democracy can a small group of crazies take over the entire system? That's not Democracy)
States who have elected tea party governors are VERY SORRY they did, and those governors are also finding their poll numbers tanking. They could not get elected today if the election was held today.
A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Wednesday indicates that 32 percent of the public has a favorable view of the two year old anti-tax movement, which also calls for less government spending and a more limited role for the federal government in our lives. The 32 percent favorable rating is down five points from December.
They are being propped up the extreme right wingers of the Republican party and my guess, their numbers look even worse after the debt ceiling debaucle and in states where the government is headed by a tea partier.
So much for your argument that if they are so bad why do so many people like them. Simple answer: They don't!!!

Check Wis. out. They have a major recall of people up there! Why did Sarah P. and Michelle B. disappear from Iowa.
They will do phone interviews but nothing personal, in the state.
All because the newsmedia caught on to their lies.
P.S. Why did the nazis and groups in the middle east, still grow! Because people didn't find out how bad they were, till to late.

Also, the Koch Brothers operation was caught sending out fake absentee ballots to, wait for it...wait for it.... Democratic Wisconsin voters,(not Republican voters of course) telling them to be sure to send back the fake ballot by August 11th! Of course, the election is August 9th and the ballot is completely fake.
Here's a snippet from the examiner:
Apparently desperate in Wisconsin, Republican operatives working for the Koch brothers funded group Americans For Prosperity (AFP) have been caught sending absentee ballots to Democrats with instructions to return the ballots after the election date.
The implication seems clear: Republicans are trying to suppress voter turnout in support of Democrats seeking office in the upcoming state senate recall elections.
Monday night the Democratic Party of Wisconsin announced they will file a formal complaint against the Koch brothers and their group, Americans For Prosperity. Wisconsin Democrats are seeking "the immediate end to the Koch Brothers-funded scheme to suppress Democratic votes in upcoming recall elections and called on six recall Republican senators to denounce the tactic."
If you can't win honestly Wisconsin Republicans, then by all means cheat. Way to destroy Democracy!!!!
These people are insane, criminal and a waste of human space.
I'm sure tufs wants to continue with his tea party band wagon. A lot to be proud of there!
