Bypolls: BJP Suffers Reverses in Rajasthan, Close in Gujarat

BJP suffered reverses in Rajasthan winning just one of the four seats today and was losing ground in Uttar Pradesh where SP was ahead and was neck and neck with Congress in Gujarat in the bypolls exactly four months after it swept the three states in Lok Sabha elections. The BJP, however, had a reason to smile in West Bengal where it made its debut in the state assembly on its own by winning the Basirhat Dakshin seat.

SIMI announces comeback with blasts

Discovery after blast: - SIMI fugitives' from MP lived in Bijnor

Five alleged SIMI operatives who escaped from Khandwa jail in Madhya Pradesh last year were staying in two separate rented houses, about 500 metres from a police outpost, in Bijnor for the past two months, according to sources in the Uttar Pradesh ATS. The confirmation, the sources said, came during investigations into a blast at one of the houses on Friday.

About 50% voting recorded in UP and Chhattisgarh bypolls

LUCKNOW/RAIPUR: About 50 per cent of the electorate on Saturday exercised their franchise in bypolls for 11 assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh till 5pm. Around 53.2 per cent votes were polled in Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat where chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and his MP wife Dimple Yadav cast their votes, while 49.78 per cent votes were polled in 11 assembly seats, an official statement issued in Lucknow said.
