Sorry - co-worker just showed me the link that we offered Saku more (4m...I didn't believe him this morning when he told me)

but still think the excuse of letting his brother shine or whatever is BS - strange things are a foot at the circle K, indeed

Ok Gang...I need some help here, after reading this story I am not sure I "get" where the new era is going with this team...so far all I've heard is a lot of lost players, and only 1 decent one aquired...This is not how you improve a team you want to make a playoff run!

If they are done making moves, then you are definitely correct. As it stands right now, the Wild would most likely be lucky to be fighting for the 8th playoff spot again this year.
However, they still have plenty of room under the cap to get a couple more players that could make an impact. Players such as Comrie, Tanguay, Morrison, and Afinogenov (and others that I am surely missing) are still available as free agents. Also, they could still try to swing a trade with Harding and/or others to net a primetime player.

Well, the off-season is young. There is still a lot of time to make some trade that will potentially acquire either useful players and/or draft picks. Free agency is but one tool at a GM's disposal to try and make the team better.

From what I understand Chuck Fletcher is somebody who covets draft picks and has a good eye for talent.

It's important to remember also that the Wild missed the playoffs last season by two little points so really, the team they had last season (most of it without Gaborik) was nearly good enough to make the playoffs (and would have if Gaborik had been healthy) so they aren't that bad right now and if Havlat, Koivu, Burns and Backstrom can stay healthy for more than 17 games (exactly the number of games Gaborik played last season) the Wild have a very good shot at getting back to the playoffs this coming season so don't worry too much about them not doing more in free agency.

They have a good, disciplined, hard-working team right now and they also have one of the 3 or 4 best goalies in the league in Backstrom. And we all know that a good goalie or a hot goalie can take an average team and make them a good one.

If Fletcher can now succeed in restocking the cupboard in terms of talent in the system (i.e.draft picks) and/or possibly trade for a useful player or two, he should be considered a successful GM.

The Wild did make an offer to Gaborik...early last season they offered him 10 years and $78.5 million. Gabby turned it down. That says to any GM, new or not, that Gabby simply didn't want to be here anymore. It's irritating that now Gaborik is leaving town with that parting shot. The Wild made him the best offer they could to get him to stay and he said no. What Gaborik should have done was simply said it was time for a new direction for both he and the Wild...that would have been the professional thing to do. I can't wait for the first time that groin goes out and the New York fans and media eat Gaborik alive.
did the new wild managment make him an offer. were not talking about the old one that put a 5 goal a year player next to him. why would he want that none of the nhl stars did obviously.

And neither wood Gabby. You need to actually suit up and play a game or two to draw fans in.
hmmmm thats the same argument they made against randy moss, part time player ,, funny before the part time player arrived we had blsckouts had to drive 60 miles to watch a game , then after the part time i play when i want arrived we had 0 blackouts our primetime appearances tripled, now hes gone we need corporate buyouts again. if not for adrian peterson the vikes would be totally ruined. to bad the wild dont have an adrian perterson type. i believe even though gaborik was hurt he was still the scoring leader most of the time.

The Wild are going to suck next year. Way to go new front office. Im sorry, but Martin Havlat is not any better than Gaborik, and just as injury prone. WEAK offseason!!

No offense intended whatsoever, ATA, but I think can make a more accurate prediction: Rangers miss the playoffs as Marian Gaborik misses 2/3 of the season due to menstrual cramps

Actually I have it on the word of a fairly reliable person inside the Wild org that Fletcher more or less told Gabby's agent that they were freakin' nuts to turn down the deal Risebrough made them and that any offer Fletcher would make wouldn't be that good so, the answer to your question is probably no but with the understanding that Fletcher has the balls to tell off Gaborik's stupid agent.

Hockey News rated the Rangers signing Gaborik as the worst free agent signing of this off-season, in case anybody cares...and no offense taken if you don't!!

do you think it might have anything to do with the old wild ways and gaborik didnt know they were changing direction and made a decision based on that . kind of like when hossa, zetterberg, etc all didnt sign here either and demitra left, now that the team has changed direction i wouldhave considered a an offer i think thats whta gabby was saying he dont care about your theory and im sure newyork doesnt care either they haveamarket that can piss gabbys contract 4 times and not feel it.

Fletcher wasn't going to waste his time; how obvious was it that Gaborik was not going to sign here.. He might "consider" an offer, but no way he would have signed here unless we gave him the league maximum..maybe. Screw that! Fletcher is doing good so far; remember folks, he has little to nothing to work with.

What more could they have done? Havlat is no better than Gaborik, sure, but he is getting paid 2.5 mil less per year, that gives us room to trade etc.. You are a dope and obviously are shooting from the hip with your statements.. Put the booze down and think about it for a minute.

Havlat is a piece of the puzzel and Gabby was not. You have to look at the value of the player and not just the "name".

Maybe the new D is better than the loss of Skula and Bergeron.

The Rangers scored less goals than the Wild last year and did not resign their leading point getter. Gabby will have less to work with in NY.

They didn't make an offer (if it's true) because they didn't trust him or his agent AND they didn't want Gabee (girls spelling) to accidentally sign the contract then be stuck with him for the next 4 or 5 years vacation on the injury list blaming management for his injuries. He is soft in the head and the body. He doesn't take of of himself. skill alone doesn't make a star, dedication to his body, mind, team and skills makes a winner. Gabee will probably always be a loser because he is immature in the two most important areas team and body.

Care to post that link from the hockey news? Most people are laughing that Chicago gave Hossa a 12 year deal. I don't care for the signing of Gabby for 5 years, but he has high end skill. I can't help it if Sather is a moron.
