Tuesday's Kaysinger Conference battle between Stover and Green Ridge had both crowds chanting and cheering throughout the three-set match and for good reason. The Lady Tigers won the second set by seven after Stover dominated the first set 25-16, but the Lady Bulldogs came out on top with a thrilling 27-25 win in set three to take the match 2-1.
The Trenton High School volleyball team was in action Saturday at the Lathrop Tournament. Trenton ran a record of 0-1-3 and missed bracket play.
The Sweet Springs volleyball team was swept by Maranatha and Barstow and split with Van Horn at the Lone Jack Tournament this weekend. The Lady Greyhounds fell to Maranatha 25-14, 25-13 and Barstow 25-19, 25-16.
The Rock Bridge High School boys swimming team came out on top in Saturday's Independence Invitational. The Bruins finished with a combined 349 points, which put them atop the leaderboard in the 19-team event.
Members of the Smith-Cotton 1984 boys soccer team, which reached the state's Final Four, were honored at halftime of Thursday night's match with Hickman, which was played at Jennie Jaynes Stadium, which the '84 team called home. In attendance were coaches Martin White and Bill Dey, and players Tim Howard, Marc Mateja, Kevin Webb, Tony Crank, Todd Letourneau, Troy Letourneau, and Todd Holman.
COLUMBIA Hickman softball came back from an eight-run deficit Thursday night to defeat Rock Bridge 9-8. The Kewpies are now 5-1 on the season.
The Lady Spartan softball team bounced back from a 1-3 showing at the Cameron Tournament with a pair of victories earlier this week. Tuesday's road win over Carrollton gave Richmond a clean 3-0 mark in the MRVC East.
The Smithton Tigers tried to keep up with the Sweet Springs Lady Greyhounds on Wednesday, but Sweet Springs pulled away with a 25-14, 25-17 win. Smithton had a 4-3 lead in the first set and later tied it up at five apiece after going down 5-4, but the Lady Hounds scored five points in a row with the help of two aces from Kortnee Vaught.
