Centennial senior Anna Mitchell picked up a pass from freshman Kirsten Wikner at midfield, pushed the ball around a couple of defenders and sprinted toward the goal with three minutes left in regulation in a girls soccer game against Atholton Friday. Mitchell then deftly slotted the ball into the corner of the near post to give the Eagles a 3-2 victory over the Raiders.

No. 14 Centennial volleyball sweeps No. 9 Wilde Lake

As it turns out, the Centennial gym is still a very difficult place for visiting teams to win volleyball matches. The Eagles , who had an uncharacteristic 7-6 season in 2013, held off a talented Wilde Lake team Thursday night, 25-23, 25-19, 25-21, behind senior captain Meghan Kelley's team-high 8 kills.

Glen Burnie rallies past Chesapeake

Jordon Hawkins had 13 kills and Taylor Dietrich added 27 assists to help the Glen Burnie volleyball team rally from two sets down to knock off Chesapeake in five sets, -25, 22-25, 30-28, 25-15, 25-11. Native Dancer, five others to be inducted into Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame

In addition, the Hall will present the John Steadman Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes the contribution of individuals over a long career of supporting and advancing athletics in the state of Maryland, to the late Earl Banks , who was the football coach at Morgan State.

Howard volleyball sweeps River Hill to begin title defense

After leading her volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of visiting River Hill Tuesday evening, Howard senior captain Hanna Webster led the players in a more mundane task: collecting and storing the dozens of folding chairs scattered around the Lions' gym. "I just want everybody to know that our program is inclusive of all the team, so I try to lead all the team" activities, said Webster, who finished with a workmanlike 17 assists from her setter position on Tuesday.
