When they talk about sex in school, it makes many kids really horny. Plus, when they show you how to use condoms, many kids become curious and want to try it to see how it feels, especially when they tell you that it will prevent pregnancies and STDs!

1 I have always fully supported more explicit sexual education in our schools.Yes, some will get 'horny.'They can go home and masturbate.Teens will have sex whether or not they are taught contraception.I would much prefer that they know what they are doing;and practice safe-sex.To "just say no" doesn't work? |

sex education is important in school, as many parents don't' talk to their teens. It is natural
for kids to be curious. They will experiment. I would rather my teen children to be using birth control, over hoping they will be abstinent, and finding out they are pregnant. I grew up in the era, where you were told sex was bad, don't do it, or you are going to hell. It has lasting negative implications. females can't orgasm, guys need Viagra, divorce rate is over 50% |

Perhaps we should change the drug education from "Just say no" to "The proper ways to do drugs". Should we wait till high school to teach Meth 101? While we are at it, let's change the drunk driving slogan from "Don't drink and drive" to "Drink and drive the correct way". With the drinking age being 21 we need to wait till college to teach Intro to Driving while Intoxicated. Are we so lame that this is the path we want/need to take? God help us if it is. |

How could God possibly help us. Are you putting all of your faith in mythical Gods like Zeus, Thor, Allah, and all of the other Gods that came before "God". If this is you, please know that help is out there. There are many organizations that can help you break free from the shackles of religion. It really is possible to live a life free of dogma.
We are here to help;) |

LOL, that's actually how I plan to talk to my kids about drinking and drugs! Kinda, "Don't do it, but if you do..." It's a work in progress; I've got a while to think about it. I don't think your comparison is valid. Safe sex is a good thing that can be healthy and promote closeness between two people. It's something that everyone is expected to do at some point. Drinking and drugs never have positive results, unless you count good times! |

Comparing apples and oranges my friend, when it comes to sex, the more someone knows, the better. |

Definately because there are still a lot of naive people out there. Not every one gets the information they need and are getting themselves in trouble. |

As others have said, you're comparing apples to oranges. Although there is a funny connection; the disgruntled moral ideologues that push those abstinence-only sex ed programs are very similar to the people who love D.A.R.E. so much. Not sure what it's like now, but when I was in school in the 80s, dare was just a fear-driven misinformation campaign. They'd put pictures of disfigured and deformed fetuses right next to an opinion piece about the dangers of marijuana. Even as a kid I recognized that some of their information was misleading, inflammatory, or flat out wrong, but of course it was presented by a police officer so no one wanted to speak up or ask questions about it. This "education" taught me that police officers and teachers can lie to children, but didn't do much to teach me about drugs or sex. It's even sadder that most of the abstinence programs are backed by churches and religious groups. How can these people consider themselves moral and honest when their actions directly lead to infected kids and teenage mothers? Could it be that they benefit from a culture of fear and shame? Noooo... that could never be the case. No church would ever seriously preach a message of hate, shame, guilt, and fear! http://www.landoverbaptist.org/ |

Everyone knows that the adolescent libido, so famous for its power and fury, is locked up deep within our youngsters, and is only unleashed when the health teacher begins talking about condoms.
Nay, I say! Nay! We must protect our young innocents from the scourge of latex! Never should their tender ears encounter talk of contraception! For down that path lies madness and ruin! Bathtub gin, speakeasies, rumble seats and the evil of Jazz! Even those who are not afflicted by these fevers are still encouraged to indulge in the most wretched act of all: self pollution! |
