AFTER spending years as his mother's carer, Danny Stepney has launched his own Swindon therapy charity to help others - but is struggling to meet growing costs.

Experts: Placebo power behind many natural cures

EDITOR'S NOTE: Ten years and $2.5 billion in research have found no cures from alternative medicine. Yet these mostly unproven treatments are now mainstream and used by more than a third of all Americans. This is one in an occasional Associated Press series on their use and potential risks.

Weathering the Flu With Fibromylaiga or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

I think we all know a few people who've been hit with the flu this year, both the seasonal one and H1N1 (swine flu). It's kind of a no brainer that the flu would hit those of us with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome harder than it does most people -- what doesn't?

Think twice before getting vaccine

I wonder how many people in our community and throughout the world are as bewildered and outraged as I am when reading news reports on mass vaccinations planned against the so-called H1N1 virus.

Space does not allow me to elaborate on the toxic and injurious nature of virtually every other ingredient of the swine flu vaccine. One of perhaps even greater concern than the mercury is the adjuvant called squalene, which is being used in virtually all of Canada’s swine flu vaccines manufactured by Glaxo, and has been linked with the deadly anthrax vaccine used in the Gulf War. Symptoms developed by the soldiers included arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, seizures, mood changes, MS, sterility, genetic defects in the newborns, etc.

ABCs of vitamin D

Depending on your devotion to health headlines, you might have picked up on some of the vitamin D news of late. But for those who might have missed it, here's an overview: After years of thinking that vitamin D's main role was in building and maintaining healthy bones, we now know that it acts in a number of ways previously unimagined. For a while, the big story was its potential role in cancer prevention, but a growing body of research has also linked vitamin D insufficiency to other chronic diseases, including heart disease and type-2 diabetes. More recently, connections between vitamin D status and cognitive decline, autism, chronic pain (including fibromyalgia -- some researchers believe that many cases of fibromyalgia may actually be misdiagnosed vitamin D deficiency) and depression have been suggested.

Acupuncturist to offer help for fibromyalgia sufferers

Acupuncturist Jonathan Breslow will perform a relief technique on those who suffer from fibromyalgia during a free “New Solution for Fibromyalgia” workshop on Nov. 11 in Camarillo.

“The workshop also offers those suffering from this condition an opportunity to receive a free relief test that is noninvasive and may relieve the majority of their symptoms for minutes or even days,” Breslow said. “The knowledge and free relief test provided in the workshop could save attendees and their loved ones years of needless suffering.”

Rheumatologists debate whether fibromyalgia is really a disease

What defines a disease? At what point does a collection of symptoms and causes make the transition from a "condition" to disease? Is it when a consensus forms around a concrete, observable, and repeatable set of biochemical and/or physiological processes and outcomes? Surely there is little doubt that diabetes or hypertension qualify as a ...

Irritable Bowel Syndrome - Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Why Do Fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome Go Together?

The short answer to the question of why these conditions often occur together is, "Nobody knows." The long answer is, at this stage, speculative. Similarities that bear looking at include:

All three conditions may involve serotonin imbalances IBS and ME/CFS both can begin after another illness IBS and FMS both are strongly linked to stress

Right now, we don't know the underlying causes of any of these conditions, and we likely won't understand their relationship until we better understand their causes and mechanisms.

Painful Bladder in Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

A lot of people with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome develop bladder pain and other bladder-related symptoms that can be severe. These symptoms, though, are NOT related to FMS and ME/CFS -- at least not directly.

A condition called interstitial cystitis (IC) is a common overlapping condition for us. It can cause abdominal or pelvic pain, and it can mimic a urinary tract infection. In fact, it's so frequently misdiagnosed that most people have IC for about 4 years before they're diagnosed correctly.
