The District of Columbia Council planned to vote Tuesday on emergency legislation to allow handguns if they are used only for self-defense in the home and carry fewer than 12 rounds of ammunition.

More B.S. stalling from a mayor who was beat but refuses to stop infringing on people's rights. Trigger lockes indeed! Is the criminal going to give yuo advanced warning before he breaks in?

I think the trigger-lock ban is pointless, and will only be used against that poor soul whose child accidently fires the gun.
The dam is beginning to break on the ban on semi's, initially ALL semi's were banned. There are a lot of smaller semi's that carry less than 12 rounds.
I also foresee the written and vision tests being challenged, much like the way the tests designed to keep blacks from voting in the south was challenged.
If the district would spend half the time and energy going after gang-bangers and illegal guns as they are spending on this foley, things might improve.

SURELY there's enough rope in D.C. to conduct a 'necktie party' on that idiot city council?

WHERE is the moral OUTRAGE?

Oh, wait: I forgot that it's against the law in D.C. to be 'outraged.'

So sorry!

You get the government you deserve.

Only ONE thing will change this picture: THE CITIZENS take action THEMSELVES.

The reason these police departments, like D.C. and Chicago, are so anti-gun, is that they have trained their forces that any gun is a bad gun, except for "us cops." To be able to discriminate from a "good guy with a gun" and a "bad guy with a gun" would take training and judgement. They don't want to be found wrong, so they demand absolute power. I still cringe when I see the face of the New Orleans police chief announcing that all guns will be taken from all people. This, at a time when the helpless had nobody to call, or means to do so. So the sat in their little hovel homes, and the police raided them, threw old ladies to the floor, and took their little guns.

No, the council will most likely pass a law saying that the criminal must keep a trigger lock on his gun also. He will only be able to take it off after he breaks in.

Jeez, the mayor is a complete moron.
Trigger locks compromise the use of a gun as self defense.
This was covered in the arguments and decision.
How did that idiot get elected. Are people in DC that stupid?

Is it the water?

Is it the close proximity to congress, the senate and white house?

I have heard that sitting next to a congressmen lowers your IQ by 15%.
Senators 20%.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me , uhhhhhhh,

fool me,, uhhhhhh, you can't get fooled again.
If you get to meet the pres.

These restrictions are insane! I have them listed below.

1. Those who wish to register a handgun must pass written and vision tests.

-*-What other RIGHTS are subject to tests? Remember the old literacy tests given to blacks before they could vote? Those tests were a blatant attempt to prevent blacks from voting, because the system kept blacks depressed and uneducated; they knew that blacks wouldn't be able to pass the literacy test.-*-

2. Require all legal firearms -- including handguns, rifles and shotguns -- to be kept in the home unloaded and disassembled, or equipped with trigger locks. There would be an exception for guns used against the "reasonably perceived threat of immediate harm."

-*- I wonder how "reasonably perceived threat of IMMEDIATE harm" will be interpreted. That basically means that you can't take the trigger-lock off until you hear a suspicious sound or someone breaking in. You wouldn't even have a defense if someone threatened your life at noon and at 10:00pm, when going to bed, you took the trigger-lock off --- Why?--- because you're lacking "immediacy". There is effectively NO difference between the stricken law and the present law.-*-

3. Ban of machine guns, defined as weapons that shoot at least 12 rounds without reloading. That applies to most semiautomatic firearms.

-*- That law also applies to any weapon that could possibly be modified to shoot 12 rounds without reloading. Which basically leaves sing-shot rifles/shotguns and revolvers. Why are they so afraid of law-abiding citizens with guns?-*-

4. Require a ballistics test to determine if a handgun is stolen or has been used in a crime.

-*- This seems seems to be serving no purpose other than to add another expense to registration process. I need to ask, are not all these requirements truly "infringement"? The whole of the government needs a gut-check to scrounge up some intellectual honesty..-*-

They are just stalling as usual to try to further their unconstitutional agenda. The NRA and others are already warming up the lawyers int he bull pen to go at it again. I hope the city gets their asses sued.

I've been following DC's "adherence" to the SCOTUS decision on another forum, and I'm surprised the mayor and his cohorts haven't been slapped yet.

Didn't the SCOTUS decision mention not banning weapons "in common usage" or something like that? If so, how can they justify a semiauto ban?

Think of it this way:

— THEY =KNOW= what the ruling said

— THEY are going to test the =LIMITS= of said ruling, by pushing the NEW LAW to the limit.

— Actually they WENT OVER the limit. Why? Because ... They want to see what happens.

— THEY are going to MILK THIS for all it's worth

Look: That is how lawyers and politicians work. They KNOW what the law says, but THEY are looking to find a judge who will equivocate and dissemble over the latest USSC ruling, and muddle a NEW decision which will fall somewhere between what was intended by the LAST ruling and what the politicians WANT.

This is the D.C. government's way of thumbing their noses at the citizens, most of whom are bloody freaking cowards anyway. They get the government they deserve.
