Research In Motion announces faster BlackBerry to compete with Apple's iPhone

I have four issues with your article.

1) Announcing and delivering are two different things. So RIM may have announced it first, but it won't deliver 'til Aug. Apple may not announce until June, but historically, they delivers on the same day, "available now."

2) Your article says RIM's new Bold has more space, but doesn't specify how much (1GB), and doesn't clarify that that's compared to earlier Blackberries, not compared to Apple's 1st generation 4GB, 8GB and now 16GB.

3) Blackberry has been around how long, and yet RIM is only now offering a 3G version? The media has been giving them a free pass on this, when they've all been howling that the iPhone, which has not even been out one complete year, has been lacking this, and apparently will be addressed in its first 12 months.

4) And where's the price-competitiveness? Apple's iPhone is/was $399 for 8GB, and $499 for 16GB. RIM's Bold is $300-$400,$100 less, but for much less space.

Look at how tiny the screen is on that thing.

Very misleading headline. Neither product is on sale yet. Why not report that I announced five years ago that I'd be releasing at some point in the future a 5G phone?

I'm not an Apple Zealot (well, maybe a little). I think there will be plenty of room for both companies to compete and even cooperate. Competition is good for the consumer, and certain types of cooperation, for example on standards, is also good for the consumer.

So here's to healthy competition that brings benefits to RIM, Apple, and consumers.

Big, fat, clunky and loaded with buttons. Tiny screen.

No way this will slow the iPhone Express.

RIM "beat Apple to the punch with the new BlackBerry Bold, due this summer" ?

The new iPhone G3 will be out in three weeks. we'll see who beat who. The RIM looks like a keyboard with a 2.5" high screen. BFD! Plus the new iPhone software will support MS Exchange. My company's IT dept. promises full iPhone support by July, a HUGE about face for the techie-geeks who are hung up on 13 character passwords.
