The department said the plant violated emission standards on Jan. 30, March 1 and March 14.

The authority did not maintain some control equipment correctly from Nov. 7, 2005, to April 26, 2006. It also failed to submit the results of certain incinerator tests within the required 60 days, said the document.

Yeah.........

The authority did not maintain some control equipment ........

can you imagine the toxins from burning 800 TONS of tires a day for SIX months.......

because someone did not maintain control equipment

Correct me if I'm assuming wrong here....but WHAT sanction or penalty is assessed the supervisor/manager/head of the those aforementioned authorities ? Nothing !

Do they get a jail sentence ? Do they themselves get a monetary fine, let's say....a month's pay taken from them ?

These "penalties" assessed by the Feds/State only rob from the taxpayer. The only sanction here is against the taxpayer who doesn't operate or control the aforementioned authorities.

What a political joke....the taxpayer was fined, not the "authority" !

There are tire reclamation facilities in this country that use a process to freeze the tires. Then the rubber just crumbles right off.

Why hasn't this procedure been discussed here ? Why is this plant going to burn tires rather than freeze the rubber ?

Of course I know you don't know the answer, per se ? My question is more rhetorical and conversational.

Dan, where do they 'freeze' these tires? that is a wonderful idea and one that should be explored.

I am constantly recycling and even have a side of the yard that I am building bins for different things so that I can separate and then transport more readily these items that can be recycled.

I would love to know more about this company and the process....

Not that I approved of a death sentence, but wouldn't it be great if we treated some of our leaders like China did the guy during the pet food recall? Of course, he was a scapegoat for more corrupt government officials. But if department heads, supervisors and 'leaders' were 'paid' or 'billed' for their ability to do the job and when something like this happens, they are given the chance to step down or pay the fine, violations like this might not be so common.

Shred-Tech's high torque tire shredders and systems range from 80 to 1,200 HP (60 to 900 kW) and are capable of processing automobile, truck and off-road tires at rates in excess of 20 tons per hour.

Shredder systems may be.... stationary ....or

mobile,... electric or hydraulic, off-the-shelf or

custom designed.

Systems include infeed/outfeed conveyors and classifiers designed to ensure 2" (50mm) minus absolute sizing. Shred-Tech delivers the highest knife tip cutting force in the industry, the most convenient equipment to service and maintain, and provides the most durable, cost-effective tire shredding systems available.

Shred-Tech's STG-400 Granulator is ideally suited for secondary reduction of 50mm tire chips. The STG-400 will process approximately 5 tons per hour of 50mm tire chips to a wire free particle size of approximately 3/4" (19mm).

There are tire reclamation facilities in this country that use a process to freeze the tires. Then the rubber just crumbles right off.

..........or..........

As seen above they can vist your house....

So,,, why are we not looking into this system as an alternative? Why do they claim burning the tires is the way to go? I admit that my only knowledge on this process and the proposed plant is through the ETN and on the news (obviously not very educational), but I have read articles online from other areas that turned them down and everyone does for the same reason, pollution.

That being said,,, If this idea was turned down, why?? How many jobs would it bring to the county? what types of education would be needed?

There was a report done on 20/20 or some other news program where they discussed the procedure and took the viewer on a tour of the plant. They spoke about how much cleaner the freezing procedure is and how, by freezing, they are able to easily remove the steel belts from the tires. It made me wonder about this burning procedure that wants to be introduced down at the old Hammermill property. The only thing I could think of was that it is cheaper to burn than to freeze. In the long run, the burning will cost the region dearly.

Maybe you can do a Google and find out more info that way ?

I don't know you as you refuse to tell me who you are. However, your anonymous attacks against me, for whatever reason, are indicative of just the kind of individual you are.

So attack all you want....you're no different than the mugger or rapist who attacks, unseen in the night.

Then again, if you have REAL issues with me....you can discuss them at: thumper_16417@yahoo.com or you can continue to act as the assassin you think you are.

Again....thank you for your kind words. Your sensible comments know no bounds.

You don't know me yet you care to attack me ? Why ?

It's interesting how the assailants here, will attack and attempt to ridicule someone as myself, why they hide behind their monicker of anonymity !
