Finland plans to fit breathalysers to the cars of motorists found guilty of drunk driving ,to prevent them from commiting the crime again.
Finland's road death tolls is 400 people a year, and they have wet and slippery roads nearly all year round.South African's road death toll is more than 12000 people a year-30 times higher-and we have good driving conditions.
What's our excuse? If it is that many of our collisions are caused by drunk drivers ,then shouldn't we be investigating a similar system of adding breathalyser units to the cars of those caught and prosecuted for driving drunk?
People found quilty of gross negligence or excessive speeding should have their licences cancelled and their cars confiscated.
This is the only way we can completely remove reckless drivers from our roads.
But since our police lack enforcement capacity, maybe we should use technology to help out.
