The apartheid government only trained the police to check for 'Dom' passes and make sure that families were seperated. What do you expect from a society whose families were kept apart and subject to abuse by the police. All the police ever did was arrest, assault & assasinate Africans. Crime was contained in the townships and that is why you will hear naive white South Africans say "oh, this used to be such a great country". The truth is that crime was always there and the only difference is that its starting to affect whites as well. I don't understand how this police force can suddenly be expected to turn into a crime fighting force when it was never designed to be. Furthermore, they completely destroyed the trust from the community which is key in any country fighting against crime. I know because as a Benz driving black man I sometimes get shit treatment from stupid white policeman who don't think that an African can be tight enough to make honest rands. White South Africa must stop and think a liitle deeper rather than just looking at things on the surface. FNB, the prez cannot be blamed for crime. Provide deeper solutions rather than engage in some costly whining campaign.
