South Africa is one more on the list of countries that Cuba has failed to pay their loans. More proof that the US should only sell to Cuba COD,

South Africa is a country of free blacks today due to the cuban defeat of their former government's troops in Angola and Namimbia. The debt owed to Cuba is infinite. This debt in blood owed to Cuba can never be repaid.

Note debt was for insurance on the supply by south african companies of products. So the original debt was paid but for some reasons, insurance premiums were not paid, a dispute over who was to pay such premiums??The article is incomplete and who is Bloomberg News??

He's just finishing up "The Cat In The Hat" by Dr. Seuss and he will be tackling "Horton Hears A Who" very soon after that.

Bullshit
Cuba never won any battle against the South African forces. The biggest battle ever fought was at Cuito Cuanavale.

4000 Cubans died versus 28 South Africans.

The Cuban's propaganda machine considered it a victory as the South African forces, according to them never occupied this one Angolan town.

Of course the South African forces were only deployed defensively. They never intended to occupy any Angolan towns at all.

And to top it all off South Africa deployed only 3,000 troops out of an potential 500,000 that they could have mustered.

In the various battles of Cuito Cuanavale the cubans lost 4,000 and the south africans 715. The south africans were forced to move only at night to avoid the Mig23-ML fighters that the cubans used and which were superior to the fighters used by the enemy. On driving the south african forces from their northern bases in Namibia, SA requested peace negotiations that terminated the war.

Good posts. Many experts feel Cuito Cuanavale was a stalemate even though the amount of Cubans and Angolans killed suggests they were cannon fodder.

Read this.
Nothing quite like hearing it from someone's personal experience at Cuito.

It is a good read.

Here is what Wikipedia has to say.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Cuito_...

I have to apologise. The South African losses were 31 and not 28 as I stated. I somehow must have gotten our original count confused.

That is still 31 of our soldiers killed compared to 4,000 enemy soldiers.

We slaughtered them.

What is MOST telling is that South Africa only committed 3,000 troops to help Unita.

That is 3000 troop out of a total force of 500,000. A force that even had nuclear capabilities.

It is clear that it wasn't an offensive force, but a defensive force. Less than 0.1% of our military might at that time was committed to Cuito.

The opposing forces were between 40,000-45,000 yet they lost and they lost by an huge margin.

Their propaganda machine called it a draw because they say we never took over this o ne specific town. It was never our intention to take over the town.

but alas they had to say something to make up for the humiliation.

Yes thanks. The Reds were very good at propoganda and people like canuck still fall for it. Interesting part at the end about Koevoet. Looks like the SADF and koevoet didn't like each other very much.
As for Cuito, the commanding Cuban officer was later executed by Castro for ''drug'' charges.
