News on this matter must be dispassionate. Otherwise, it will not be news coverage at all. In other words, we must not assume there is a fire raging in Zimbabwe simply because the opposition says so.

It is doubtful that a matter getting so much global attention, eclipsing the real tragedy in Afica, Darfur, can be "rigged." Come on. Get real!

If you know anything about the Mugabe government, you will know it is an absolute failure. He makes Jimmy Carter look like George Washington by comparison.

On the other hand, why have the results been kept secret for so long?

Mugabe is a pied piper leading his people to ruin by pre-judging the motives of Europeans. It's a beautiful song, sung at just the right pitch. Zimbabweans kick out a few white farmers who know what they are doing and have the contacts to sell their goods. Over time natives would learn enough and gather enough capital to take over the white farmers operations more and more. But instead they have this fool destroying their economy.

He claims that the whites want to turn the clock back, conveniently ignoring the changes that have happened in the white world since the days of colonialism. Democracy is that big change. It leads to diversity and over time improves lives. Including the formerly colonized, if they will let it.

Mugabe is a tyrant and a dictator. Look how long he has beebn in power! We complain about Castro and the guy with the new haircut in North Korea. Why do we leave Mugabe alone. I guess we dont want anything from Zimbabwe, or else Mugabe would have been out long ago with all of his goons.

You assume that the media is all powerful. But it is up against entrenched nationalism in its bitter infancy. The anger and desperation, fanned by a dictator with an axe to grind and a job to keep, blinds minds to the wisdom of more gradual change. This is a nation going through a restructuring, a perestroika, a deep depression, morally, politically and economically. Part of the arguement in Zimbabwe is the same all over the formerly colonized world. Democracy is associated with the former colonists by dictators that have vested interests in continuing revolution in order to keep their coalitions together. Mugabe hands out jobs and land to his vassals and they fight for him. It's an old story. Yet democracy is in fact the best answer for the country, if only they can leave that pied piper.

The reason that nothing is said about Mugabe now, or was said about Idi Amin at the time he was commiting genocide is simple. If a black is commented on in a negative way = an uproar starts with cries of IT'S RACISM!! blah blah blah..
Yet we can curse and complain about ANY other race on the planet and nothing is said.

Just goes to show you what Mugabe will do to keep the power he has had for so long. He will lie, cheat and steal to not lose this election. The money and power he has gained by raping and pillaging his country have gone to his head. He is another Castro-type dictator who wants to hold on to power for life...or at least until disability stops him.
