I thought China did not send it's soldiers abroad to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries. What is this?

Well, if there are Chinese troops in the streets of Zimbabwe, they are probably there at the invitation of the Government of Zimbabwe, just as the United States troops are in Iraq at the invitation and consent of the Iraqi Government to protect it from the Iraqi people. Afterall, it is an honour to follow the example of the great nation of the United States of America.

America has no business in Iraq, just as China has no business in Zimbabwe, in my opinion.

Cool. It's ever the first time China send troops somewhere, besides back in Vietnam in the 80s.

If we live in a perfect world, I agree but we are not. Every country is selfish, they will take what they can and if they can. Beneath the surface, there are no difference between an American and a Chinese. All will take take and take and complain complain and complian about the other taking taking and taking.

Whatever they're doing, they don't want an English speaker in the mainland to read about it.

Blocked by the GFW again.

Don't you worry about this filtering into China. There are thousands and thousands of Chinese citizens living overseas who emails home to families and friends with a stroke on the computer keyboard. Censors in China have to prove their relevance to continue receiving their salaries.

"Truth must be hidden!" is their daily mantra in Beijing one would seem.

I had a friend e-mail the story to me translated into another language.

Its related to the Arms shipment. They are probably there to train Mugabe's army or protect Chinese interests. Problem with China is they are so focused on making money right now that they dont seem to care one iota what kind of oppression is going on in some of the countries they deal with.

There's more to it than arms sales, the Chinese are doing exactly what everyone else is doing, only with more emphasis on social development in Africa, by investing in the infrastructure of countries that they deal with, by building roads and schools ect. Given the record of "civilized" western nations in Africa, you can't really blame them for "looking east"

China has to hunt for resources to fuel its boom.It has to go to places that is unfriendly to the good old US of A. The good old USA has already locked up all the resources with countries it is friend with. for example, the whole of the Arabian peninsular is under the domain of the US of A. Can you blame China if it goes and buy oil from Sudan. Before anybody start, China has nothing to with the Dafur crisis. Its a civil war pure and simple. China is a customer and if the seller wants guns instead of cash, so be it. If they are paid cash, the Sudanese can buy guns on the international arms market anyway. The good old USA has supplied and continues to supply guns to unsavoury groups and regimes too. All in the name of national interest. Well, China is just emulating USA. That's all. It is very simple really.

Oh I totally agree that the Chinese are the only ones helping develop places like Zambia and the Congo/Zaire which have been a mess for ages. But in Zimbabwe they are just helping to prop up an unpopular oppressive regime so should wait until Mugabe steps down.

It is no secret the US, Australia, England, and dozens of other countries are in Iraq.

But it is a secret about Zimbabwe apparently, because the news is censored in China.

So whatever it is that they are doing, they do not want the world to know. Or, at least their own people.

Contrary to what you may think hiding 100,000+ soldiers in a country is a little harder than allegedly hiding 20.(who could be simply guards or mercenaries)
