Arms cargo unites Africa

The strange saga of a rusty Chinese cargo ship packed with 77 tons of munitions appears to be marking a turning point in African states' cozy relationship with the autocratic regime of Zimbabwean President ...

The ship would make a nice target for an "errant" torpedo from a submarine. Headline says "munitions ship mysteriously explodes at sea."

"The U.S. State Department is expressing concerns about the arms shipment."

What is this load of c_ap! I just can't believe we are still aligning ourselves with China when they pulling this stuff, and THIS is all our government has to say about it?!

At least we'll kow that the South African navy is not responsible as we don't have crews to operate our submarines.

Our people are still trying to pass the exams. By the time they're qualified those subs will be obsolete.

What are you talking about, the U.S. urged those African countries to block the shipment, that's why they were concerned. I'm sure now, they're concerned the ship will be offloaded in say Iran, and the arms will end up in Iraq or something. Then again, the U.S. is the world's biggest hypocrite when it comes to the arms trade.

Africa, particulary Zimbawee should be making and producing their own weapons. In fact, the whole of African States should be "industrialized" then, maybe, they would be able to send all the foreign "parasites" home and build a strong Homeland; but, as long as African Leaders are the ego maniacs who are driven by greed, lust for power, and a hate for their common man and do not realize their greatest resource are the people then, let the foreigner's do as they wish. The Bible predicted Africa would be where it is today and it's people scattered like orphans, and it's rich homeland taken over by strangers..Poor Africans. Haiti's children are eating dirt sandwiches and the Motherland Africa is too poor to send a care package. That tells you the State of AFrica and the Black Man on Planet Earth. And, I'm a black man.

Africa... is an entire continent that's effectively become a write off.
Where such wonders for mankind as Ebola come from. Where 100,000% annual inflation rates are considered 'normal.' Where children play with AK-47's {and one country even put a picture of one on its national flag}. Where AIDS is rampant. Where rape is commonplace. Where the human species may have originated from, but, will surely perish. They can't feed thir people, but, they've money for arms. They can't provide clean drinking water, but, they've money for arms. They can't..., well, do anything constructive.
Africa...what a wasteland. A naval blockaid should encircle it that none of its inhabitants escape and act as a contageon for the rest of the world.
The human species at its worst and lowest, ah, Africa. Maybe if we just turn our collective backs on the Dark Continent, when we turn back to look the species will have removed itself from the landscape and we can re-populate it with non-Africans. In the meantime, to hell with / goes Africa.

I am saddened by these comments. They are so off track and seem to miss the underlying message of this article - the opposition to Mugabe's use of force is coming from the people of other countries in Africa. I find this to be welcome and positive news. Why so many negative comments? Why the utter despair, "What a Continent"? Have you been to Africa?
