Sorry "mate" if I choose not wear an Akubra or watch the footie or drink like a fish or swear at immigrants thats my choice.

If I choose to be a citizen of Australia, get the dole, or find a job and root as many nice young white girls as possible (while not wanting to transform myself into a Barry Crocker "Aussie") thats also my choice.

Well it was not an easy one but I did get 9/12.

However, I do know that one of the answers was wrong;

10. "You're so bogan"

Correct answer : An Aboriginal word, first written down when the Bogan River in north-western NSW was included on maps in the 1830s.

Your answer : A word that derives from the Irish term 'bog' with a derogatory implication that anyone bogan must have come up from uncivilised muddy depths.

Bogan DOES dervie from the word 'bog'.
This I am 100% sure of.

Good test though, really got me thinking.

Shame most of the 'brain children' on this thread were not interested in the actual test.
So thanks for that N.

LOL, I always thought bogan was named after the moths. The term hasn't been around that long- they used to be called yobbos and ockers.

I don't know man that test looks a little dodgey to me.

The word Bogan and where it came from is debatable.

Yeah - I wasn't sure about that one either.

Besides I heard that in Queensland at least, and possibly other Eastern states, they're called Bevans.

90%? ROFL. They pay GST when they buy goods, don't worry about that. They pay tax at every turn. unlike the dishonest imports.

I think I will go with the origin of the word being from the UK as I have hear this several times, and not on an anyone can write wikishite page...

Also, the sir name "Paterson" is scott and he was well travelled so chances are 'bogan rain' that being three parts dust and one part water referrs to mud, rather than geography.

http://www.abc.net.au/tv/canwehelp/txt/s26480...

Where does the term ‘Bogan’ come from?… asks Noni, email

David Dale - Social Commentator

So the word ‘bogan’ which we love and which we use for people from the western suburbs, if it’s on the east coast, and the eastern suburbs if you are in Perth, it refers to somebody who is perhaps not as fashionable as they might be or have a different idea about fashion.

There’s a lot of theories about where the word came from and there was a poem written by Banjo Patterson in 1902 in which he refers to a ‘bogan shower’, which is ‘3 drops of dust and 1 drop of water’ and ***apparently**** that refers to the Bogan River and the Bogan shire in NSW and the possibility is that people who were perceived as coming from the bush, from the Bogan area, were called ‘bogans’.

But there’s also an origin back in old Scottish which is about people who come from the Bog, so perhaps we should be pronouncing it the ‘bog-ans’ rather that the ‘beau-gans’. All those people that Kylie Mole used to make fun of in the Comedy Company …“eeww, she’s a Bogan” might really be Scottish people from the Bog.

Bogans aren’t always unfashionable, they go through periods, I mean Radio Triple J had a ‘National Bogan Day’ and they reckon that Midnight Oil, with our esteemed Environment Minister in it, was a bogan band, now that’s pretty fashionable.

So there are times when we love bogans and there are times when we perhaps make a bit of fun of them.
