Peaceful Muslims have made themselves irrelevant by their inability or unwillingness to get control of the power-base of their religion. For that reason, I don't care what peaceful Muslims say or do. The only ones that matter are the ones who can quite precisely quote the same Quran to justify their violent acts. They call the peaceful ones apostates and they make an argument that is so convincing that neither you nor I nor the peaceful Muslims are able to stand up to it.

Good point. I used the example of Stevens because, for most Muslims, Western values of freedom of speech, religion and dissent are so foreign to their own. Stevens at least spent the first three decades raised in America making a ton of money and surrounded by Western culture and values. He SHOULD have a perspective which others do not have. Your point about converts is well made however.
