Why would the USA claim that? Are our crooked politicians above the law? I suppose Hillary thinks they should be.

Who cares what Hillay thinks. Let me tall you a Hillary story:

A teacher had been teaching her students about the reconstruction period after the Civil War. She asked the class, "What do you call a person who does not live in a state but moves there just long enough to establish residence and then runs for office hoping to take over control of the state?" The class thought and then one student said, "Hillary Clinton".

In United States history, carpetbagger was a pejorative term Southerners gave to Northerners (also referred to as Yankees) who moved to the South during the Reconstruction era, between 1865 and 1877.

The term referred to the observation that these newcomers tended to carry "carpet bags," a common form of luggage at the time (sturdy and made from used carpet). It was used as a derogatory term, suggesting opportunism and exploitation by the outsiders. Together with Republicans they are said to have politically manipulated and controlled former Confederate states for varying periods for their own financial and power gains. In sum, carpetbaggers were seen as insidious Northern outsiders with questionable objectives meddling in local politics, buying up plantations at fire-sale prices and taking advantage of Southerners.

The term carpetbaggers was also used to describe the Republican political appointees who came South, arriving with their travel carpet bags. Southerners considered them ready to loot and plunder the defeated South.

In modern usage in the U.S., the term is sometimes used derisively to refer to a politician who runs for public office in an area where he or she does not have deep community ties, or has lived only for a short time. In the United Kingdom, the term was adopted to refer informally to those who join a mutual organization, such as a building society, in order to force it to demutualize, that is, to convert into a joint stock company, solely for personal financial gain.

So enlightening, I suppose you think the current leader is a saint. I could tell by the deck stacking and prosecution of opposition politicians that your words are inflammatory and so far from reality. The real crook is in power. Free media poles declare his popularity at a single digit. Come election time he will probably get more votes than people in the country.
Free the oppressed!!

Ok Pesky, you lived up to your name, doesn't change the fact that your view is out to lunch. Ps. Nothing wrong with Canadians from the East coast, funny though all these posts have locations and if you could read English a tad better and a map you could actually present yourself with a bit of intelligence. I've read some of your opinionated posts before... Thanks for the drama and cheap entertainment!

Let us hope that the next elections in Ukraine, if honest, will oust the present administration. Let us hope but not hold our breaths. Given the past elections it is quite probable that Yanu's people will rig things left and right Also let us not forget Putin's tendency to stick his fingers into other people's cookie jars.
