So you are saying that as an example (since it says "former Soviet Union countries"): A Russian thug forcefully sells a Russian girl to Israeli pimp. And you are saying that it's not thug's fault that he forced the girl into sex slavery, it's pimp's falt that he bought a girl?!

I know its summer and your logic is probably taking a break but you should get in touch with it... soon.

Sorry, I can't let Israel or any other country have a pass on this one. It is 2006 and slavery still exists. But you would think Israel would want to be the last place accepting this. They should answer for it.

When Bush gave his speech to the UN in 2003 about going to war with Iraq, half of his speech was about human trafficking (something Colin Powell wanted to get more aggresive on). It was one of two things Bush did that I liked. Unfortunately, no one paid attention because the big news was about war with Iraq.

Slavery is wrong and whoever is involved, supplier or acquirer should have a harsh jail sentence.

Here's a link to the US State Dept Human Trafficking Report. http://www.state.gov/g/tip/rls/tiprpt/2005/

I sure agree with you in the trafficing of minors and women into prostitution or labor. It was not long ago that a large ring was discovered and broke up on the west coast, by the arrest of over 18 people in Washington and Oregon, I do not remember the number in California. It was minors going into slavery in Canada from South America.

This is very serious, but small potatoes compared to the FSU into Western Europe, Africa and Asia.
Ukraine has been fighting the trafficers since they became free in 1991. I am sure the other Former FSU countries have also been that long. What a sad state of affairs that they cannot stop these from happening. It will take police on both the sending and receiving countries to reduce the numbers.

Kenya has a large population of minors as young as 6 years of age because of the hiv and aids problem. Men are looking for the young girl as they are more likely not to have hiv or aids. The hiv and aid epidemic in Kenya is over 65 percent, and maybe more by now, that was last year. Other African nations are even worse off that Kenya.

We cannot leave all the blame on The Russian criminal element. The Italian criminals are very involved and inslave girls just as much as anyone. But please do not forget this is a world wide problem that I think will take law enforcement of all countries working together to stop it.

We are on the right track when we start tracking the money trails, and telephone conversations between these idiots, it is really about the only way to get ahead of the trafficing.

Nikolai, I was blaming everybody.

I had an occasion to help a girl more than I did that involved this trade on acadia beach in Odessa and didn't know about it at the time. At the time, I only knew that a man was beating a girl and, where I come from, you stop that. Anyway, it's a long story and I think about the girl a lot. So I speak up against it often. It helps my guilt.

East Euro countries are doing more to prosecute the criminals now. It took too long and more can be done now at the local level. Trafficking is good money and it was almost legal until the last few years

Making prositution Legal would not stop the illegal trade, it would more than likely increase it as the girl slave has no say to her pimp. Also, unless they legalized sex with minors (sick thought) it would not remove the younger than 18 year old slaves, in the traffic pipelines.

The police, and governments must get really serious about abolishing this trade, in order to slow it down. Not just Europe but Africa and Asia.

Hi Bob, I agree with you, but we are idealist, there will always be a demand for that 11 to 16 year old virgin, as she will be marketed through the black market.

I still stand by my earlier writings.

At the risk of sounding anti-semitic (I'm not), Israel is listed as a Tier 2 country (not meeting minimal standards in fighting trafficking) and is a prime destination for trafficked women. They take a third world view of it. Strange for a "civilized" country.
