The Polish government knows this and is therefore slow to act. As a trained, virologist myself ( Kandidat or Magister level degree in Poland ) I can tell you that there is a huge dispute over how virulent H1N1 is among virologists and the majority epidemiological view is that H1N1 is far less virulent and lethal than the common seasonal flu ! Poland is wise to carefully consider what Ukraine's government is really up to ! The western ukrainians are being manipulated as usual as east Ukraine is not quaranteened ! It is the usual process of pre election manipulation in Ukraine. So what is Ukraine's government "really" up to according to you? What's going on with Eastern and Western Ukranians? Some conspiracy here? lol

Are you suggesting that the quarantine is to isolate the Russian speaking Ukrainians? If so you have got it just backwards. They are not quarantined therefore not isolated. What a mishmash you make of things when yo try to look intelligent. Cool your jets cowboy! I don't have to prove I am intelligent and I actually don't care if I am or I am not!I am actually probably quite stupid in some ways for wasting my time on this topic and this forum! I am not the first to suggest that politics are at play in Ukraine ( see the New York Times,London Times and the Economist etc ). I can state what are the undisputed facts: which is that in all of the world only the country of Ukraine is quarantined and in Ukraine, East Ukraine and Crimea is not quarantied whereas West and Central Ukraine are quarantined. There are 189 reported H1N1 case fatalities in Ukraine which can be compared to the 3000 cases of normal seasonal flu fatalities in an average year in Ukraine during flu season. All electioneering and rallys are suspended in Ukraine in the middle of an election! I think Tymoshenko is trying to endear and ingratiate herself with west and central Ukraine as the 'saviour of Ukraine', for political purposes . It seems pretty obvious to me and most political observers that study Ukrainian politics. By the way H1N1 is less virulent than the common seasonal flu (which is confirmed by the WHO) in terms of mortality.I have worked in a virus lab in Canada for four years ,have grown viruses in the lab and have prepared antigens in my first career and have a degree in Microbiology and Virology so you get my opinion and my knowledge for free. It has nothing to do with intelligence, I just happen to have a qualification in the area ! If you think you know more cowboy, that is fine with me, but others seem to be interested!.Hope you have a good day.Cheers.

How will they vote? lol Is that what the New York Times is saying? LOL No ! No ! You must look ahead and think it through! Yulia Tymoshenko will get 75% of the vote instead of 50% of the vote in west and central Ukraine. There is already a cult following for her as an reincarnation of Knyahyna Olga ( Ukraine's patron saint and ancient queen ). The people will turn out to vote 'en masse' as the flu scare will blow over by Jan.17, 2010 but her stature as 'saviour of Ukraine' will only increase in West Ukraine as she appears to fight for the people's health . That is the way it will work and what this flu stuff is all about. It is a little over the top in terms of tactics but I still support Yulia Tymoshenko. She meets Putin alone in Crimea this week to discuss - What else ?-'Gas and Gas Transport issues for 2010 !To understand Ukrainian politics ,one must approach the political manouvers as a complicated chess game and must have the ability to see seven steps ahead or so . Ukrainian politics are amongst the most Byzantine (in the political sense ) in the world! The New York Times says all the flu scare in Ukraine is politically motivated but does not analyze it any further ! We will see . In the meantime hold your LOLS !

If it will make you feel better I have also grown viruses in the lab.(Biochemical background but working for a University Department of Virology) Of course mine were not pathogenic but I still grew them, extracted the genetic material, broke it down and ran it through a fraction collector and did UV adsorbtion work to characterize the nucleotides. Maybe you made an unwarranted assumption about "Cowboy". Just because I choose to live in rural area does not mean that I have always done so. We are on the same page about the virulence of the two strains. I don't have much evidence of political skulduggery but some is always present in ANY election in ANY country. Lets just sit tight and see what developes.

I thought Oregon had some ranchin country ? It is like in the western cowboy movies you know 'Whoa Cowboy '- don't shoot so quick, cool your jets! Yah, I know you have said in previous posts that you have a Bachelor of Science degree as I have, so you should know how things go in Science and how stats are manipulated by governments etc. I eventually found science too tedious and moved on to get my Doctor of Jurisprudence degree ( JD ), which is what they call a law degree in the USA and Canada. Yulia Tymoshenko is maximizing her chances . Putin wants her in. It is a done deal .She does however have to show well in the votes in W. Ukraine and also has pull some E. Ukraine votes so it is legit. So she plays up the mother image in W. Ukraine ,which plays well. Pretty tame stuff actually compared to some others I would say !And PS my other home, where I spend one quarter of my time is in a rural area on the Gulf Islands in British Columbia,Canada with an Island population of 3000 so I get to enjoy rural life too ! Yes. We will see.I don't advertise my degrees but I find that those with at least one degree on these blogs tend not to be cranks so I ask people about them sometimes because it adds to their credibility if they are discussing a certain topic so that is why it matters. Cheers!

I think everything is being over blown or there is some very confusing information. This H1N1 is suppose to be a mild type of flu but it is very easily spread. It seems to me that the hospital authories in Ukraine were to slow of releasing the proper and correct information to the people. They were not informing the people as to what to do if they start feeling ill. Also the health authories were slow in releasing the medication to the people that had the flu. I think that the Prime minister closed the schools and large gatherings for 3 weeks so there is plenty of time to do the campagning. Hopefully the politicians get their plans for Ukraine in order. Perhaps the best thing for people to do is to stay home

She didn't do too bad in resolving the first go around of the gas-crisis merry-go-round. So there is hope.
