Ukrainian Racism

Jun 6, 2012 Full story: Isegoria 489

ApparentlyA Ukrainian racism A is in the news in soccer-loving nations, because the country will be hosting this summer's European Championship - and because the country is really, really racist, in Alexander Boot's experience: For if it's true that racism is a poor man's snobbery, then Russians and Ukrainians must be very poor indeed.

This article is BS. Does not stay on point. Ukraine is probably less racist than US or UK. Sure, there are racists in Ukraine but most Ukrainians are friendly people.

Anybody who knows Russian or Ukrainian and has watched the BBC news clips showing the so-called "Nazi salutes" knows it's nonsense and disinformation. In one I saw the crow shouting "Onward Spartak!" (Spartak being the name of the home team) and rapidly thrusting out their arms--but having nothing to do with salutes or Nazism. Anyone who has seen real Nazi salutes knows they are something completely different. The UK news media condemns racism in Ukraine, but the UK has a long history of imperialist colonialism based on racism and slavery to think about.

You're right. Ukrainians would not be considered one of the Master Races by the Nazis anyway; more likely akin to Serbs or Schlavs.
Actually, most eastern Europeans have a complex about themselves and wonder how 'white' they really are in comparison to the Germanic and Nordic peoples. So they take out their complexes on Africans and Asians in the form of overt racism.

I'm Norwegian, my wife's Ukrainian...we lived in Kiev for a couple of years, and when we were calling around in search of an apartment we got the same response everywhere: Oh your husband is a foreigner! He's not black is he? Oh from Norway, that's fine...

We lived in Kiev and the only work you will see black/African people do is selling shoes or hip hop like clothing...actually not selling that much either...But i don't know if they act out their racism in a violent way, i think it's more that they are thought upon as a lower class citizens...but hey! try to live in "democratic Ukraine" for a bit, you might turn out to be an ass too ;)

Where did you seen blacks selling shoes? They have better income in comparison to average ukrainian citizen!
Right, we dont like blacks and indians, but much better feelings to arabic people and chinese. They are more similar to humans.
But you have understand, blacks africans have very bad reputation here. We have not tradition to live together with them.

Thais have no complexes of the type you are referring to. You forget that Thailand was never colonized. But the Germans of past did consider, in their words, Eastern Europeans, including Ukrainians, to be "untermensch".

Wrong. German do not and never considered peoples from the UK, Scandinavian countries, Dutch, French, Italians, Swiss, etc as untermensch. Only Eastern Europeans. Another point is that the Japanese consider the Chinese to be beneath them.

Communism did not "invade" Europe per se. In fact, Marx and Engels, the main architects of economic socialism, were Germans who were very much part of a growing movement of European intellectuals to explore and implement this ideology in the wider society. However, in parallel, Fascism or Nazism came into being simply because of WW1 and the resulting great depression and collapse of the German currency. Hitler, had the requisite personality, to exploit this situation with his agenda which apparently appealed to most Germans at the time. He was the 'right person' at the right place and right time.

The current situation in Europe is troubling but I don't see a reemergence of Nazism or Fascism as a matter of official state policy.

Marx and Engels were german jews, but what is difference?
of course, communism and Stalin were ready to attack, strong Reich was a wall before them.
Germany today has realized dream of Fuhrer, Europe is united and Germany has the first role in Europe.

Dream of Fuhrer was a 1000 year Reich. While Europe today has some semblance of unification, it is still no USA. And with countries like Turkey knocking on the door of the EU, one wonders where this will lead ? Though, I personally place Turkey's chances of admission as slim, if not non-existent. Yet from the economic standpoint Turkey is doing pretty good..
