Once again, PM Tymoshenko has done her homework and stood her ground. This contract was agreed to by two notoriously corrupt administrations. The Bush/Cheney thieves, and the Yanukovich gang.

Thankfully, one governmental entity has risen above the profit motive... the Tymoshenko Rada.

If my own US government had a fraction of the backbone that PM Tymoshenko has, Bush, Cheney and the rest would be impeached and standing on treason charges.

Go Tymoshenko!

Yulia needs to throw a bone to her campaign supporter. Odessky Primorsky Zavod was the #1 choice, this is the #2. Looks like he is getting desperate and is trying to compete for some Bulgarian factory, the pile of cash he is sitting after last years IPO on London Exchange must not be sitting with him well.

I will go along with Go Tymoshenko, but all the nonsense about Our President Bush and vice president has no place on the posting site. It only degrades your opinions as being biased and untrue, when in fact they would have some merit to a Ukrainian.

Unfortunately, my opinions are proving less biased all the time. Ukraine and Russia aren't the only countries with corruption in leadership and an honest discussion of such things benefits our European partners as much as it would us.

But I'll keep my cynicism to a minimum. Thanks for the correction in my manners.

U.S. Vanco to appeal Ukraine license ban at Stockholm tribunal

KIEV, July 9 (RIA Novosti)- A subsidiary of the U.S. oil company Vanco will appeal a decision by Ukraine's government to revoke its license at the Stockholm arbitration tribunal, a Ukrainian official said on Wednesday.

Ukraine revoked the oil and gas license of Vanco International, a subsidiary of Vanco Energy Company, on April 25.

"Today I learned that Vanco Prykerchenska has applied to the Stockholm arbitration tribunal," said Yevgeniy Korniychuk, first deputy justice minister of Ukraine.

Vanco International signed a 30-year production sharing agreement with former premier Viktor Yanukovych's government in October 2007, covering the Prykerchenska area just south of the Crimean peninsula.

Under the deal, the company received a 65% stake and Ukraine 35% at the prospecting and development stage. The sides were to go 50-50 with the launch of commercial production.

Vanco International eventually transferred its rights to the Black Sea shelf development to its subsidiary, Vanco Prykerchenska Ltd., which started to prospect hydrocarbons at the Prykerchenska bloc from the fall of 2007.

However, the Ukrainian government said this move violated the terms of an agreement with the U.S. oil company and revoked the license.

Vanco earlier said it wanted to resolve the conflict amicably, but did not rule out resorting to international arbitration.

I think in watching Tymoschenko and Yuschenko disagree at the highest level of Ukrainian Government is not corruption, but a youthful democracy of government starting to take place. Compared to what was their before the Orange Revelution, this is a big step. I love to visit Ukraine and the people are wonderful eveywhere I have gone. It has gotten better since the O.R. however, and I no longer feel as if I am watched wherever I go.:-)

I agree with all of this. Exept- I still feel watched when a man at the door of the supermarket wants to see your receipt and look in your bag bafore you leave. Just like our local WalMarts LOL :) People are the same everywhere; even silly politicians.

Hello Bear, yes, I forgot about the Wal-mart intrusions, but then I suspect that is more for the shop-lifter. But now that you have mentioned it.:-) smile Have a nice day, you are missing some wonderful weather in K.F.

I have been watching the weather at home. HOT! Thank God I have the lawn sprinklers on timers. Weather here has been nice. Partly cloudy and in the high 80's. It is due to warm up this weekend but still not like KF. A week ago our son finished installing an air conditioner in the apartment. The next day the cool spell started. Maybe this weekend he can finally use it.
