Boring old tosser

The UN, IPCC, every one, only claim a few millimeter rise in sea level so how can this be swamping the atoll?
but actually, yes! it is a major concern to the public of these low-lying atolls, having lots of problems resulting from sea level that has risen dramatically, i think research and any other help is needed..'on desperate-level' otherwise,'evacuation' is the best stragedy.

Alacrity dont believe every thing you read in a news paper. DO your research and you will see there is NO CONCRETE evidences only speculation and divided opinions. However if the seas do rise say TaiTien to Shanghai and a lot of other coastal cities. |
It is "boring" to you because you dont have a heart to care for the unfortunate nor the intelligence to realise the seriousness of global warming to these tiny islands and their inhabitants. |
This is a very typical response from the mindset of people from the developed world who are self centred and insensitive to the real threats affecting those who are affected from the plight of global warming. |
I endorsed what Alarcity said. How much more concrete evidence do you need Jack before you believe the realities of global warming? How much research do you need? I suggest you take yourself to Tuvalu and see it for yourself because it is NOT speculation but a reality. See it for yourself so that you can keep quiet if you have nothing worthwhile to contribute to help. |
Would you be able to comfortably say that if you were living on one of the small islands? Would you have that same mindset or would you worry to get your ar.. out as quickly as possible? |
Like your grandfathers stories! |

The IPCC prediction regarding the rise in sea levels for the Pacific may not be accurate due to the lack of scientific research in small islands like Tuvalu, Kiribati, etc. However, what the low-lying islands are currently experiencing give concrete evidence and proof that the impact of global warming is already taking place. Tuvalu, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, etc, which are not over 4 meters above sea levels are the most vulnerable to an increase in sea level rise. The sad thing is that industrial nations are those responsible for global warming cause by an increase in their greenhouse gases, while the low-lying islands are the victims. I have read one article by an Australian denying global warming as the main cause for coastal erosions on Tuvalu. The local people reacted against his report saying that the recent rise in sea levels must be attributed to global warming. I wonder whether some of the scientists are paid to contradict the reality of global warming. The good news is that the present Australian Prime Minister takes global warming as a serious environmental problem and has expressed a desire to work with the global community to reduce greenhouse gases and to support the Pacific islands to adapt to impact of global warming. So for those in industrial nations who are skeptical about impact of global warming in the Pacific, just keep quite because you are ignorant about the reality of global warming.

I mentioned lately that what our country/government ought to do and must, is to increase appropriate adaptative measures (as well as mitigation measures) to curb and minimize sea level impact on our islands. This is the most plausible and sound strategy and decision that needs to be taken.
The decision to encourage emigration is drastic but disastrous, and not a wise decision. It may have been a decision based on wrong advice. It is disastrous because it can have negative impact on the economy. One is that it will encourage 'brain drain' resulting in a stalled or poor economic growth. It is only fitting to allow emigration of unskilled people, but should restrict that of skilled people. More over, apart from the measures indicated above, it is time now that our government is strictly serious about population growth and its control. We know that our population is so huge for our islands sizes and most importantly our economy. The impact it has on our economy is large and disastrous. One way to improve our GDP or GNP per capita as some experts suggested, is to reduce the population growth. So we encourage our government to reconsider its population policy. We know that our present government is a good government, though there are still a lot challenges to overcome and resolve. Good luck! |

While many will rush to say that our islands are sinking and will disappear maybe in the next 50 years, I totally do not agree.
Although sea level rise is real, yet there is no need to cause panic to the people. Our islands will still survive until the next millennium or so! The IPCC predicted a sea level rise of 9-88 cm by 2100. But what does this mean? It means that on a worst-case scenario, that is when nothing is done from now on about GHG emissions, the 88 cm projection may be reached. On the other hand, when measures are taken to curb and minimise GHG emissions to appropriate levels, then we will only see rise in sea level of no more or less than 20 cm. Another projection we can think of is that these projected s.level rises will never be able to sink our islands - they will only increase disastrous impact... The most plausible and therefore wise decision that our government should consider and take is to increase all necessary adaptative measures such as to minimse coastal erosion, impact on water quality, improve infrastructure, etc,.But thanks to this present government, it's already started in this direction though a lot more need to be done. Some recent studies by SOPAC and other international bodies had found contrary to our anticipation that there is really no dramatic rise in sea level for Kiribati that should cause panic! What I am trying to saying here is that it's better to base our decisions on facts/science rather than on mere speculation. On the other side, I wish to assure everyone that our beautiful lovely islands will remain as they are in the next 50-100 years!!! Ara bwai te mamauri n tainako! |

Hello guys
How about the new invention of the lilypad city. Has the president or prime ministers of low lying countries ordered one. It will be on the market soon. Wake up guys and receive the myth of the earthly world. It can accommodate 50,000 people so may be Kiribati or Tuvalu may have to order 3 to 4 and please do not forget ABC to be on board one of your lilypad city. WAKE UP and search for its information on the website, it might be the answer to the many arguments about sea level rise. BUT mind you where the people will dump their rubbish as the city will float around the higher countries following the ocean currents? MMM Tkkk OOO Overstepping the divine creation. Man man man, Western developed nations??????????Trying to find the answer to THEIR own mistakes anD most AMAZINGLY touch something they CAN'T COMPREHEND at all. Let keep our eyes watch and let keep our ears listen. |
