Emergency Phone Numbers
Police 155. Traffic police 154. Ambulance 112. These numbers are toll free when you use a regular phone but if you are using a public or a cellular there is a charge.

Public Telephones
There are three kinds of public phones:
1. Token phones: For these you have to insert a special token that can be purchased from the post office. These phones are very hard to find and quite old-fashioned.
2. Card phones: These work with a special prepaid card that can be purchased from the post offices and most street vendors. There are three kinds - 30 units, 60 units and 100 units. It is advisable to purchase 60 or 100 units for making international calls.
3. Credit card phones: These work with all the major credit cards and they are available at the airport and all the major touristy sites. For international operators, here are the most common numbers: AT&T 0-0-8001 2277, MCI 0-0-8001 1177, US Sprint 0-0-8001 4477.

NEVER HEARD OF ANY OF THESE DUMB TURK "EMPIRES"....HERE IS REAL WESTERN HISTORY...BARBARIANS!!!
The Battle of Marathon, 490 BC
Printer Friendly Version >>>
The battle of Marathon is one of history's most famous military engagements. It is also one of the earliest recorded battles. Their victory over the Persian invaders gave the fledgling Greek city states confidence in their ability to defend themselves and belief in their continued existence. The battle is therefore considered a defining moment in the development of European culture.
In September of 490 BC a Persian armada of 600 ships disgorged an invasion force of approximately 20,000 infantry and cavalry on Greek soil just north of Athens. Their mission was to crush the Greek states in retaliation for their support of their Ionian cousins who had revolted against Persian rule.
Undaunted by the numerical superiority of the invaders, Athens mobilized 10,000 hoplite warriors to defend their territory. The two armies met on the Plain of Marathon twenty-six miles north of Athens. The flat battlefield surrounded by hills and sea was ideal for the Persian cavalry. Surveying the advantage that the terrain and size of their force gave to the Persians, the Greek generals hesitated.
One of the Greek generals - Miltiades - made a passionate plea for boldness and convinced his fellow generals to attack the Persians. Miltiades ordered the Greek hoplites to form a line equal in length to that of the Persians. Then - in an act that his enemy believed to be complete madness - he ordered his Greek warriors to attack the Persian line at a dead run. In the ensuing melee, the middle of the Greek line weakened and gave way, but the flanks were able to engulf and slaughter the trapped Persians. An estimated 6,400 Persians were slaughtered while only 192 Greeks were killed.
The remaining Persians escaped on their ships and made an attempt to attack what they thought was an undefended Athens. However, the Greek warriors made a forced march back to Athens and arrived in time to thwart the Persians.
Akritas, I understand yor histeria. You can tell anyone about your heroic stories but not to Turks. You know it is a one sided relationship, simply we came , we f..ked , again we f..ked, again, again and again!!:-)

Turkey belongs to Turks?
Article by Metin Munir in Milliyet
Turkey does not belong only to Turks but belongs to the Kurds, the Alevis, the Laz, Sunnis, Jews, the Greeks, the Armenians, Chechens, the Balkans, the Syrochaldaians, the Azeris, Arabs, the Albanians. Turkey is the grandchildren of the communities they inherited with the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire and who continue to live in the country.
Everyone is equal before the law, everyone has the same opportunities, no discrimination, everyone believes in God wants or atheist, believes the prophet desired, light candles. No discrimination in advancement of the military up to the rank of General . Everyone can claim the position of the Commander of Security. All bidders may be in big public projects.
All this is true or false?
Of course, it is wrong and if that is the case, the opening statements of the Kurds are just words.
The Sunni Turks see themselves as the sole owner of the country. They are the guardians of the regime, they eat the «fillets» of the country. The Kurds, the Alevis should be satisfied with what will give them Sunnis. In a worse fate at the other, Greeks, Armenians, Jews. Moreover how many left to live in the country?
The Ottomans saw themselves power and ethnicities such as B class citizens just like today, too.
And the problem and the solution is in our minds. I hope that nothing will result from the exposure of government to the Kurds because the power of our mimics the Ottoman policy: I am your superior. You have to limit itself to what you recognize.
The words are all equal. Once the government attempted openings in the Alevis but there was then.
So how far will succeed in reaching out to Kurds? May be opened by a government that has the courage to operate the School of Theology;
It is possible to release Ocalan by the time abandoned its intention to open its border with Armenia Azerbaijan once threatened us?
Turkey was built on the compunction inherited from the Ottomans, the dogmatic sounitism and the inability to embrace democracy.

Hide and Seek
Story:
A man renowned for his knowledge loved to converse with the wise men of Turkey.
One day a boy was brought before him.
"This child has great learning," he was told.
"And who has he studied with?"
The man was informed that the source of the child's wisdom was natural.

Immediately, the man questioned the child.
The boy's answers were simple, elegant, beyond ordinary comprehension.
Hungrily, the man continued his questioning.
However, the child grew bored.

"Let's play a game," he said. "You hide and I will find you."
The man laughed. "It is better if you hide first and I will find you. After all, I am knowledgeable in six kinds of magic."
"No. You go first, " insisted the boy.
The man snapped his fingers, disappeared, and entered another world.
The boy sighed, "It's not fair. Come back. You're not supposed to hide in the other world."
The man reappeared. The boy vanished, leaping into the heart of the man.
The man looked everywhere. He couldn't find the boy.
"Where are you?"
"I'm here." The boy's voice was near but muffled.
"I can't find you."

So the boy reappeared saying, "I was in your heart. If you do not look in your own heart first, then you will not find wisdom."

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Gemini

It's easy to become distracted and confused because your mind is wandering about in all sorts of different directions. You're also in a highly impressionable state so will believe almost anything you're told now, whether it's true or a total flight of fancy. Be wary of muddling others by only telling them half the story or letting your imagination fill in any gaps.
