most companies are getting out of Chicago thanks to G Rod and taxes, etc. Also, offshoring is taking it's toll. Many jobs are going to markets like Dallas.

Of course many 'companies are getting out' of Illinois. With our highways in utter chaos, air-travel actually being precluded this week at O'Hare, the Chicago sales tax about to become the highest of any major city in the country, the Crook County Board being utterly both out of touch with reality and - in fact, acting oppsite and overtly contrary to that which they should be doing {laying off, cutting budgets - not expending staff and increasing taxation}, with the state government legislative arm seeking to enable voters to recall the executive branch / governor, well - does this come as a surprise to anyone? Add that the school system in...worthless in Chicago and that the sound-bite/photo-op approach of city hall to the violence in the communities is to make everyone victims in waiting, what responsible corporate leadership would either want to stay in or locate to Chicago? We've out ourselves off the grid of viability. Will the last one out please blow out the candle? It was a nice run, but, we've been steered off course, we're gounded on ther rocks and we're taking on water. Abandon ship, every man for himself {you know, like in City Hall, on the Crook County Board and in SPringfield}. Adios. |

how will allstate respond to this? cut another 400 themselves?

It's George Bush's fault.

Allstate cut some IT jobs this week, but a much smaller number. It was covered in the Trib. I would say it has more to do with the industry and the general economic situation than anything local, but that's no fun to talk about, right? |

The article fails to note all the jobs outsourced a few years ago by Zurich as well.
http://www.computerworld.com/managementtopics... Plus, the record profits in 2007 for Zurich. http://www.zurich.com/main/investorrelations/... So, this job cut makes sense? |

I was working for Zurich on the isle of man and had an heart attack and was effectively sack within a week having worked 236 hours in the previous month to try and get a project completed and ready for release.
Some reward for working yourself to death and if they do this to staff then how do they treat clients is all i can say. |

I am sure this will benefit the traffic in the area.
