Palestinians admit they left their homes on their own to facilitate destruction of Israel

A top Palestinian journalist wrote last week that it is the Arab world, and not Israel, that is to blame for the so-called Palestinian "refugee crisis."

Jawad al Bashiti, a Jordan-based correspondent for the Palestinian daily Al-Ayyam, noted in his May 13 2008 editorial that during the "first war between Arabs and Israel...the 'Arab Salvation Army' came and told the Palestinians:'We have come to you in order to liquidate the Zionists and their state. Leave your houses and villages, you will return to them in a few days safely."

Bashiti lamented that in evacuating Palestinians before doing battle with the Israelis, it was the Arabs who were in fact responsible for what the Arab world refers to as the "nakba," the catastrophe of Israel's successful rebirth in the biblical Land of Israel. Had those hundreds of thousands of Palestinian Arabs not been removed, their descendants would likely continue to outnumber the Jews.

Israeli watchdog group Palestinian Media Watch, which translated Bashiti's article, pointed out a trend among Palestinian journalists who are becoming increasingly bold in blaming the Arab world, rather than Israel, over the refugee issue. Four other similar article written by leading Palestinian journalists over the past few years were also translated as evidence of this trend.

Removing blame from Israel over the Palestinian refugee issue effectively eliminates one of the major foundations of the Palestinian struggle against the Jewish state. It also compels major international movements to rectify the Palestinian refugee situation, including the United Nations' own committee on the issue, to refocus their attention on the true perpetrators - the Arab states.

50,000 Arabs Left Gaza, Many More on the Way.

PA prime minister Salam Fayyad has confirmed that 50,000 Arabs have left Gaza since Hamas took over. He said many times that amount would like to go if they could.

Fayyad linked the exodus to the fighting between Hamas and Fatah, which resulted in the Hamas take-over of Gaza and a sharp decline in international aid to Gaza. PA sources admit that the clash has caused a great rift among the Arabs of the PA-controlled areas (Gaza, Judea, and Samaria), weakened the PA's international status, shaken internal security - and brought about increased emigration.

A year ago, in May 2007, the Mufti of Jerusalem for the PA, Sheikh Muhammed Amin Hussein, issued a religious ruling banning emigration from "the land of Palestine." Hussein acknowledged in his ruling at the time that many young Arabs are flooding foreign embassies in an effort to receive residency permits.

PA Media: 1948 Refugees Dispatched by Arabs

A recent report by a senior Palestinian Authority journalist in the PA daily Al-Ayyam documented the decision by masses of Arabs in 1948 to leave their homes in the hopes that they would return once Israel was defeated.

"The Arabs who became refugees in 1948 were not expelled by Israel but left on their own to facilitate the destruction of Israel," the senior PA journalist wrote, according to Palestinian Media Watch, which monitors the Arabic language PA media. "This plan to leave Israel was initiated by the Arab states fighting Israel, who promised the people they would be able to return to their homes in a few days once Israel was defeated."

PMW points out that the Al-Ayyam article's conclusion that Arab states are responsible for the Arab refugee problem undercuts a backbone of Arab propaganda claiming that Israel expelled hundreds of thousands of Arabs in 1948.

Police question 'vulnerable' Islam convert over Exeter bomb

Police are questioning an Islamic convert they describe as "weak and vulnerable" who is suspected of attempting to explode a homemade bomb in a restaurant in Exeter.

Nicky Reilly, 22, who officials believe has a history of mental illness, was arrested at the scene of the explosion at the city centre branch of the Giraffe restaurant chain.

Scott Allen, 19, who lives in the flat below, said Reilly had been teased and probably "felt rejected by local people". Allen said people he believed were Muslims had been gathering in the area "in increasing numbers".

Aly Turner, 17, who lives two floors above Reilly, said he thought his neighbour had been "brainwashed".

He said he had been in Reilly's flat and had seen his computer screen saver, which was an image of the burning World Trade Centre in New York.

Officials say they believe an attempt was recently made to radicalise another vulnerable man in the West Country, an area thought unlikely to become a terrorist target.

Two things happened in Iraq last week. A US soldier shot a discarded copy of the Qur’an, and al-Qaeda strapped explosives to an 8-year-old
