The Swazis are very lucky to go and play in Eritrea.
The Eritreans have better record in economic development than the Swazis, plus the Swazis are the joke of Africa with a king who marries and rapes young teen-agers whenever he gets hard between his two legs.
Why is Swaziland the poorest nation in Africa with abysimal record, just ask the king.

This is Swaziland as the world knows it,
Population: 1.1 million (UN, 2005)
Capital: Mbabane
Area: 17,364 sq km (6,704 sq miles)
Major languages: Swazi, English (both official)
Major religions: Christianity, indigenous beliefs
Life expectancy: 32 years (men), 33 years (women)(UN)
Monetary unit: 1 Lilangeni = 100 cents
Main exports: Sugar, wood pulp, minerals

A country with a life expectancy of 32 calls Eritrea poor? What a joke?

What do these ignorants know about Eritrea?

With a king who maries whenever he gets horny?

Men these people are a disgrace.

i dont know on what you have based your assertion that Swazsiland is the poorest in Africa. Swaziland is in fact not regarded as a least developed country. Swaziland cannot access grants from the ADB because Swaziland is regarded as a middle income country. Eritrea is certianly not a richer country than Swaziland. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Not long ago during one of the continental club championships players from Eritrea Shoe factory team who came to swaziand to play Mbabane highlanders remianed behind and played locally for Mbabane Highlanders (I wonder why anybody would want to oeave Eritrea for Swaziland). I am certain no on ewould leave Swaziland for Eritrea. Having said that the fact still reamins that in world economic terms both Swaziland and Eritrea are poor countries. In the African rennaisance this situation should not be permanent. The wars and other scourges such as HIVAids which have depleted our resources must end one day and it shall be unnecessary for us to insult eah otehrs dignity by making reference to our poverty.

As a Swazi I take exception to your comment. Firstly, life expectancy in Swaziland is low due to HIVAIds. This has not always been the case. Secondly, in purely economic terms Eritrea is a poor country(I would imagine that the protracted war with Ethiopia has a lot to do with this). Swaziland is also a poor country although not to the same extent as Eritrea. Thirdly, as for your insulting our King,I can only attribute this to gross ignorance on your part. Finally, I would urge you to find someone who has actually been to Swaziland to give you a more accurate picture of our Kingdom. Better still: why not visit us and fidn out for yourself whether the perceptions that you have are actually the reality which we live.

well poor guy from eritrea, it looks like you guys have not much international relations going in eritrea, first of all im really amazed to hear such comments coming from a person who comes from a country whic was just born in 1993, after gaining independece from ethopia we all understand that you are a country which still hasn't realy discoverd its self and because of that you feel like you have something to prove. Your country is no better than ours exept that maybe you have 5 million people and you are bigger geographicaly, Swaziland is a sovereign country which has a long history, and has lived in peace and harmony, never have we fought each other or have to fight for indipendence, maybe thats what marks an eritrean from a swazi, by the way when your country play Swaziland we will woooooop your ass boyy!!!

I have read everyone's comments about whether Swaziland is better or Eritrea is better. As an outsider, my first thought is, who cares? Both countries have positive and negative features. It seems that no one is happy in this world until they find someone to hate. Like in Swaziland so many people hate the Chinese and Mozambiqueans. In Ethiopia, christians and muslims hate eachother. In South Africa, whites and blacks hate eachother, and blacks seem to hate coloreds. In the US, there is a conflict between the Latinos and US citizens. I am sick of stupid arguements that have no real purpose, no rational and no logic behind their arguments. Stop it people! If you are going to argue, at least read a book on Logic, Critical Thinking and making arguments.

Well Saler who ever u are Im not suprised coz obviously u havent traveveled anywhere outside this concrete jungle you live in.You are just like the Americans who most of them have never travelled anywhere outside their state. How dare u take what the media feeds you? swaziland is a very peacefull country,we maybe poor but we have very rich cultural backround, the Swazi is not defined by what they have but by who they are and where they come from...unlike some of you who dont even know your roots.Personally I dont think you can compare Eritrea with Swaziland, the reason Swaziland is poor is because of the corruption,,which is a problem everywhere in the world, look at the US: what happened to Tom delay, why Pat Robinson had dealings with Charles Taylor? The list is just endless. As for insulting the King there you have lost it.We as Swazis we love our King..as for myself I do not support democracy but communism/socialism.Look whats happening in the US,South Africa with ur so called democracy.

I lived in Swaziland for two years. Not in Mbabane or in a major city. In the rural country side in a rural community. In the rural community people are not that poor. I collected water from the river, did my washing in the river and helped my family with weeding and harvesting. It was simple, but peaceful life. Most have everything they need to live, family, food, shelter and beautiful countryside. The ones in real need are the child-headed households. Most of these families are in real Dire Straights.
I can't stand statements like, poorest nation in the world. Just economic standards, Zimbabwe tops them all at the moment. What an inflation rate!

"This is just the American progaganda" Bonsile-CA.

As an American I am offended by this comment because just because a few Americans have to opinion that Swaziland is an extremely poor country, does not mean that it is propaganda and certainly does not mean it is true. If Swaziland had some good news to come out of the country, like the people reducing the HIV infection rate, seeing the government do more to promote freedom, or cracking down on corruption, then maybe the world won't have this poor image of Swaziland. I personally love Swaziland and think it is a beautiful country. I hope that people wake up down there and take the actions necessary to prevent more HIV infections. Because if the rate continues like this now, in 10-20 years, Swaziland will be an extremely poor country. Bye-Bye working class.

For only two years!! If it was so peaceful why did you run away? Let the people who spent their lives there and who are still there tell you how bad it is!

I have been reading about Swaziland for a long time and really love that country very much. But to compare Swaziland to Eritrea, I Know Eritrea comes no where near Swaziland in terms of democratically and economically.I think you have been using the internet very well and so you should by now know all these and stop this baseless argument. Read wider cos Swaziland is middle income state.

About the insult you gave to the King, It show how indiscipline the country you are from is. I don't think you love it if some insulted you father that way.

I was born, live and work in Swaziland. Its not right to insult the king for whetever reason, but surely He is responsible for bringing down this lovely country. The tendency to try to cling to power at whatever cost is senseless. The whole country is crying for democracy. Everyone is worried about the lavish lifestyle in the midst of all this poverty.Imagine overspending by US$2 million on foreign travel and a birthday party that will cost US$3 million in September 2008 and these do not bring bread or hope to your impoverished people. A real king and leader of the people is always worried about the welfare of his people and is not driven by greed.

unfortunately, i was born in this corrupted and god forseken farm ruled by unjust laws which catches little flies and let pass the big shots. 90% of the goverment employees are millionaires because they give them selves all the job tenders apart from fraud. millions are spent on one day celebration of the so called 40/40 [ 40 yrs of independece and forty years of the kings age ] while 67% of the population is living under the poerty line. the head of state is taking wives like nobodies busness.

(hope it won't be posted twice as I had a time-out when sending...)
Well... I lived and work in Chad, Sudan, Angola, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania ... and Swaziland.
I can assure you that:
1- No, Swaziland is not a "poor" country. I still recall when living in Mozambique how happy I was to go every week ends in Swaziland for doing mainly shopping! Actually, from all the countries I worked in, it is the best country…
2- It is a very peaceful country, I felt always safer in this country than in the neighbour South Africa supposed to host 2010 soccer competition...
3- The King does have a very lavish lifestyle, it is true. He is the head of a very very large family, It is true. This family is "high maintenance", it is true. And some people in the Gov are corrupted; it is true (it is part of my job to know this). BUT, this is not new, and the King just continues on what he and his family have been taught, and allowed by other generations. As a young and modern King (educated abroad in the best western schools), high expectations were on him for changing this. Unfortunately, it is also true that he discovered quickly than moving, modernising a country with so many people embedded into the monarchy, using it at their own advantage, is a daunting task, and it seems he gave up a bit on it…
4- Yes, AIDS is very high. But we must be VERY careful with statistics. Swaziland is a small country, and the health system is fairly well organized and distributed throughout the country. Chances for trapping/tracking seropositivity is much much better than say, Malawi, or Mozambique, or Angola… It means that it is difficult to compare countries concerning this issue as many countries do not have the infrastructure for doing reliable statistics, hence lowering final results for too many countries.
5- No the King does not rape teenagers!... He is even a charming man, and is very gentleman in his behaviour with ladies. It is true that the Red Dance allows him to have a new wife each year. It is also true that Zuma (future South African president??...) "bought" (and did not fully pays the cattle…) a wife-to-be from the Swazi Royal family, hence having the King authorising the sell of a family member, which is difficult to understand for western mentalities like mine. But it is also true that it is something that comes from long long ago, it is not the current King who invented such things, but the Swazi culture that built this system for centuries, and in which the King evolutes now.
6- Finally, it is also true that Swaziland went down during the last 15 years. Once an island for many International Organisations during South African apartheid time, it became an empty egg when the same Organisations left abruptly Swaziland for Johannesburg/Pretoria when Mandela became president. The biggest problem is: all the people who benefited from those Organisations (with lots of US$ going around) did not re-adjust their life-style, and continued using the money of the State with the same appetite. Swaziland is not a real democracy, and in this case, it takes too many years for having things changed if the street does not apply stronger pressure…
In summary, Swaziland is still a very nice place to be or to go, but what makes me real sad is that people in this country are very very nice, and their country goes down slowly (or does not evolute with its time?) as countries around attract more and more investors…
