Whats wrong with this lady?
She says these pictures are from Colombo? Do tamil women in Colombo wear saya and hatta? Did army went around banotting tamil people that day? Do any of the scenes look remotely closer to Colombo? Do you see thousands of looters running around as was the scene that day? N These images are from Jaffna or any other war torn area. Traveller I do sometimes wonder if you are an innocent or a fool! The killings that week spread all over Sri Lanka. It began in colombo and spread to kandy and a lot of other places I cannot spell and yes in jaffna many were killed by troupes, my sister-in-laws father was one of the ones killed in Jaffna by troupes, he was elderly and retired and was waiting for a bus back home from Jaffna town when he was shot in the head. |

Now black July in Jaffna also?
Jaffna is full of tamils. If there was any killing in Jaffna it have to be done by tamils. You are such a liar. pathetic one at best. I can not argue with people who dont have little sense of respect for truth. I was in Colombo that day. Your pictures are fake fake fake. Not from Colombo that day. Keep spreading false propaganda and call yourself a cospolpolitan. Good for you.. |

It spread country wide if you only knew your own history! ''Sri Lankan Army troops pulled 20 civilians off a bus (in Jaffna) and executed them two weeks ago in retailiation for a Tamil guerilla attack that killed 13 soldiers, a government spokesman confirmed today.''(The New York Times, 7 August 1983) This is the very bus my brother-in-law was lucky to miss that day! |

The evidence is overwhelming, I could post picture after picture, the burning Tamil body in the middle of a Colombo street, the crowds pulling tamils out of mini buses and beating them to death, the famous (famous around the world) of the Tamil boy stripped naked and beaten to death at Borella Bus Station by a laughing, jeering crowd. The worlds press was full of such images and they are all there saved for posterity. |

"A mob attacked a Tamil cyclist riding near Colombo's eye hospital, a few hundred yards from the home of Junius Jayawardene, the nations 76 year old President. The cyclist was hauled from his bike, drenched with petrol and set alight. As he ran screaming down the street, the mob set on him again and hacked him down with jungle knifes.." I could also post pictures of what the LTTE have done just as horrific. This is not getting at you and the majority of Sinhalese who are decent people.
This is trying to tell the truth to someone (you) who is trying to deny what happened. Dreadful things have happened to all communites. Punc posted some awful pictures a while back of Muslims killed by the LTTE. I would not dream of saying the picture were fake...I know they are real... |

My brother-in-law use to catch this bus every morning at the end of market lane Manipay. He should have been there that morning, only lucky chance made him late that day. |
It is understandable that she is only talking about tamils who got killed in 83 since she is biased. But in 83 311 tamils as well as 160 sinhalese in north & east were killed. But she dont want to talk about those sinhalese killed in 83. Thats the nature of human rights industry. |

Twenty two years later, the tragedy continues. The Tigers, who became predominant thanks to the Black July, have imposed a reign of terror on the very people they are supposed to liberate. And the Sinhalese are preparing to enact on the religious front the same criminal madness they enacted on the ethnic front in 1956, 1973 and 1983. Once again a segment of the political, religious, social and intellectual elite and opinion makers are trying to create a fear psychosis in the country, using the conversion issue. One of the main lessons of Black July is that no country can be kept undivided only by the will of the majority and that to prevent the bifurcation/fragmentation of a country the freely given consent of the minorities is essential, a necessary precondition. While the Tigers are repeating vis-à-vis the Muslims the very same mistakes Sinhalese made with the Tamils, the Sinhala Buddhists are enthusiastically planning to repeat with Sinhala Chrsitians our earlier mistakes with Tamils. Thus the Tigers are impeding the creation of Tamil Eelam while the Sinhalese are undermining the unity of Sri Lanka. Perhaps like in some Greek tragedy this is a divine punishment on two communities who refuse to learn, and who are all too willing to give full reign to the subhuman within their national souls….

The circumstances in which the communal riots took place
1. The 1958 Riots When the government introduced the Sinhalese letter “Sri” as a part of the registration number of motor vehicles after the series of such numbers beginning with the English letters ‘EN’ was over, ITAK(“Lanka Tamil State Party”) portrayed this inconsequential act as being an affront to the dignity of the Tamils and as further evidence of Sinhalese Chauvinism designed to enslave the Tamils! On this farcical basis they commenced a campaign of tarring the Sinhala letter ‘Sri’ on number plates of motor vehicles. This campaign later developed into an intensified ‘tar brush’ campaign in which Tamils tarred all Sinhalese letters on name boards in the North and the East , and Sinhalese did likewise with Tamil letters in the other parts of the country. The end result of this campaign was the infliction of violence being transferred from the defacing of letters on inanimate name boards to the infliction of violence on human beings and destruction of property. These were the circumstances in which the communal riots of 1958 took place. While Sinhalese thugs inflicted barbarities on Tamils in parts of the country where they were in the majority, Tamil thugs inflicted barbarities on Sinhalese in parts of the country where they were in the majority. 2. The 1977 Riots. In its Vadukoddai Resolution of the 14th May 1976 the TULF claimed that “Tamil Eelam shall consist of the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri lanka”.Thereafter in its manifesto for the General Elections of 1977 the TULF having claim that “even before the Christian era the entire island(of Sri lanka) was ruled by Tamil Kings” went on to claim that the “The territory stretching in the western sea-board from Chilaw through Puttalam to Mannar and hence to the Northern region, and in the east, Trincomalee and also the Baticaloa regions that extend southward up to Kumana or the northern banks of the river Kumbukkan Oya were firmly established as the exclusive homeland of the Tamils. This is the Territory of Tamil Eelam” The manifesto asserted that Tamil Eelam is the successor to the Jaffna Kindom. These appeals to the hearts and the romanticism of the Tamil People and the Tamil youth in particular, were based on nothing more substantial than falsehood garbed in the attractive raiment of historical fact. At the general election of 1977 the TULF won every constituencies in the Northern province, three of the four Tamil Majority constituencies of the Eastern province. The inflammatory rhetoric of the TULF reached unprecedented heights(or rather depth) during the election campaign leading up to the Genaral Elaction of 1977 and, on the 15th /16th August 1977 within a month of these elections, mobs of Tamil thugs took to the streets of Jaffna attacking, looting and burning State institutions, buildings and property as well as the businesses and houses of the Sinhalese residents of the peninsula.Grossly exaggerated rumors of attacks on Sinhalese in Jaffna spread to the other parts of the Country resulting in Sinhalese thugs attacking and even murdering Tamils, Looting and destroying their houses and businesses in other parts of the country |

Mrs C., Please agree at least that the photos were not from Colombo. If you have an ounce of credibility.

late Mr. Saumyamoorthy Thondaman.then leader of the Ceylon Workers’ Congres, the majority party of the Indian Tamils and an unabashed admirer of the LTTE said in regard to the last and the worst of the communal riots we have had the misfortune to witness, namely, the riots of 1983:- “There are many people who claim that these disturbance are a further manifestation of the Sinhala uprising against the Tamil. But I do not share the view. The vast majority of the Sinhala people condemn these atrocities on these innocent Tamil people and have shown sympathy and understanding. Many have braved and given shelter in their own homes in spite of intimidations and threats. In those circumstances, to say that this is a Sinhala uprising against the Tamil is absurd” |
