SANTIAGO, Chile - President Hugo Chavez lashed back at Spain's king Sunday for telling him to "shut up" during a summit, suggesting the monarch knew in advance of a 2002 coup that briefly ousted the Venezuelan ...

It's just not good American political satire until Chavez takes off his shoe and throws it at someone. Come on Hugo, and show us what you're made of!

Councilman Doug sounds like he must be old enough to remember Khruschev at the UN. Those were the days. We haven't had a really colorful head of state to parody for a long time - Nikita's gone, and whatever happened to Margaret Trudeau? I think one of the gossip columnists had her out to lunch with Monica Lewinski some years back. And Harlow in the UK: count your blessings, that could've been Tony Benn. Anyway, even Ken Livingston mellowed out eventually. He's not even keeping pet adders or newts anymore. Don't panic if you wake up one morning and he's PM (and where is Jim Hacker when you really need him?).

Yep, Chavez really went over the line at the IberoAmerican Summit, and it's going to cost him in terms of diplomatic respect and probably sway a few votes against him in the upcoming constitutional referendum. I'm generally very supportive of the social and economic reforms that Chavez is trying to bring to Venezuela, but he really does have to keep that temper of his under control. He's set himself to some enormous challenges and even with all that oil revenue, he's not going to be able to do it alone. That was no way to make new allies.

Chavez is a communist!!!
I stronly recommend that all Americans stop buying Citco gas as it is Venezuelan produced. This guy is sleeping with all of the communist leaders. He hates Americans, but loves those American dollars.

Fabuloso el comportamiento del Rey Juan Carlos. Todos debemos respetar los valores. Este energumeno de Chavez seguro no sabe el significado de "respeto".

Doug: I guess we can only be so grateful that we weren't sitting downwind of old Nikita when he took it off. If you look at some old photos of that episode, the diplomats sitting on either side of the lectern distinctly appear as if they're holding their breath. Gromyko, Dobrynyn, Jamil Baroody, the East German judge at the olympic diving competition - the Red Boogeymen of my youth. The current crop have no personalities. How sad. We've gotten so accustomed to dour clones in Brooks Brothers knockoff suits that we just don't appreciate Chavez' entertainment value nearly enough.

Finally someone willing to stand up to the world powers and demand equal justice! American secret socities tried to take over that nation, this article fails to mention that the installed president during the coup was the local president of the Chamber of Commerce, an American organization that concerns itself with one thing - making money - even if it destroys nations, kills people, pollutes the environment or upsets democracy. Chavez should keep fighting for his people, the CIA is actively operating in Venezuela, organizing demonstrations and trying to upset the nation so Bush & Cheney's oil buddies can take over the oil wells, just like they did in Iraq. Keep up the fight Chavez!!

I feel like saying the same when when I hear that language in Publix and turn around and see someone on their blue tooth, talking loudly on the phone. No sense at all these people who come here, this country really sucks now.

Chavez calling someone else a fascist? Now thats the pot calling the kettle black if I ever heard it.

Do NOT buy Citgo gas.

Citgo is purely Venezuelan and the bucks go right to chavez' government.

Instead, buy Sunoco, which is NASCAR's official American bred fuel.

Shut up Hugo. You are an a**hole.
