As a cyclist, I'm constantly amazed at the arrogance of many cyclists who ride with others. They dress in their get-ups like they are in the Toure de France and take up the whole lane like they are the "peloton" and sneer at you when you try to drive around them.

This article seems to focus on adult cyclists. Parents should also consider the use of their vehicles shuttling kids around. Why can't the kids ride their bicyles? I'm amazed that even at the ballfields, the kids are driven to and from. When we talk about child obesity, teaching kids to ride their bikes can establish a life-long regimen to keep them in shape and healthier.

I would defintely bike to work and back in nice weather but wouldn't risk my life on these roads. I love CT...No bike lanes, barely any sidewalks, hardly any mass transit....what choice do we have except to buy expensive gas and deal the cards our fearless leaders have dealt us. yet they want us to have "good" carbon footprints...Help us to help the environment and keep ourselves in good shape at the same time.

"Bicycle use on the rise" should read: "Bicycle use on the rise (maybe)"

We start with some quotes:

"But it definitely looks like there are more of them out there on the roads."

"Some of them look like they are commuting to work"

So, we're given those casual observations, then for statistics we're given some numbers from 2005-2006 that show bicycle accidents decreasing.

We're told of a recent "spate" of accidents, where spate = 2, and again the phenomenon is "apparent".

Then some retailer surveys are cited (one in dollars).

I'd nominate this article for the most worthless, least well researched, most poorly edited/structured, biggest leap to conclusion article of the year...but there are so many other examples of worse journalism in this paper, that what's the point?

Yes, CT needs to reserve all it's tax revenue dollars for State employees and teachers. No bicycle lanes for you!

You got it! The title of the article should read:

"Bicycle Use of the Rise? Wishful Thinking!"
