Malaysia Islamic body bans yoga for Muslims

Malaysia's top Islamic body on Saturday ruled against Muslims practicing yoga, saying it has elements of other religions that could corrupt Muslims. The National Fatwa Council's non-binding edict said yoga involves not just physical exercise but also includes Hindu spiritual elements, chanting and worship. 'It is inappropriate. It can destroy the faith of a Muslim,' Council chairman Abdul Shukor Husin told reporters. Though the council's decisions are not legally binding on Malaysia's Muslim population, many abide by the edicts out of deference, and the council does have the authority to ostracize an offending Muslim from society.

what anwar ibrahim say about this if he say that is haram it is ok we undestand that is they religion ....we must remmember that malaysia health is not that good what can the goverment do to take care of malaysia health i you keep on ban all kind of activity then we will lost one generation

I dun understand why muslim clerics in Msia are so damn scared that their flock of followers would stray from their faith so easily ... they are constantly looking for something new to add to the list of banned items?? Why can't they exhibit more confidence in the faith of their flocks?

In fact, have u ever noticed how the muslim prayer ritual closely resembles the yoga sun salutations?????:D

I enjoy doing sun salutations as the evening prayers call out from the nearby muezzin here!

utk org islam je....tak ganggu pun yg kapir cam ko ni....so what's your problem.

org hindu tak makan lembu pun, org islam tak kisah, tak pernah pun keluar artikel mengutuk org hindu yg tak makan lembu....sebab tu agama dia.

Apa yg salah dgn yoga?? Yoga gak ada kaitannya sama sekali dgn agama2 tertentu la.. napa la kalian ni bego amat..It's not religious at all. Yoga is universal. It's a great health science that is scientifically proven and many countries have accepted it as alternative therapy.. All religions can practice yoga. You can practice yoga and still be a good Christian or a good Muslim... if I were u, I'm not gonna listen to them... If your faith is strong, there's no reason why you would stray from it.Just my 2 cents' worth.

Mufti Johor, Datuk Nooh Gadut, ketika mengkritik persoalan ini membabitkan umat Islam, berkata senaman yoga perlu diharamkan kerana bercanggah dengan akidah, syariat serta akhlak Islam dan wajib ditinggalkan individu yang sudah mengamalkannya.

“Keputusan mengharamkan senaman ini juga tidak perlu dipertikaikan lagi kerana ia bertujuan menjaga kesucian agama dan akidah umat Islam,” katanya.

Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) ada mengeluarkan fatwa mengenai yoga, dengan mengklasifikasikannya sebagai perkara bidaah yang menyesatkan.

“Yoga adalah antara perkara bidaah yang digolongkan ke dalam bidaah dhalalah. la mengandungi unsur agama Hindu.

Segala perkara yang mengandungi unsur syirik dan boleh merosakkan kepercayaan (iktikad) seperti yang menganjurkan kepada persemadian kepada yang bukan mengingati Allah adalah dilarang dan hukumnya haram.”

are you muslim or christian? kalau kristian, buat apa nak sibuk? bukan kami kata yoga tu haram utk kristian......so tak payah nak sibuk dgn agama org lain...kami tak sibuk pun kalu lu kata jesus tu mati disalib utk jadi tong sampah dosa lu dan org yg percaya pd dia.....so lu jgn nak sibuk lak kat sini.
