please be serious. 17 trillion dollars? hahahahahahaha
its still officially 16 trillion

and there is now way in hell the American "people" are going to let their government fcuk them over for 10 trillion directly of indirectly owed to them

especially with, Vulture Funds, the American courts setting precedent rulings on sovereign debt defaults, and the American peoples pension for class action law suit

.

.
Argentina is cautionary tale as U.S. debates debt limit

Creditors are trying to seize the property of Argentina, which defaulted on its bonds in 2001. Could the same thing happen to the U.S.?

Gov. Bob McDonnell cuts state employee hours to avoid Obamacare costs

About 10,000 Virginia public employees are poised to see their hours cut back as Gov. Bob McDonnell continues to find ways around what he said were President Obama's costly health care reforms.

Both the Virginia House and Senate passed budget amendments that will cap part-time state workers at 29 hours a week to avoid complying with a provision in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that requires businesses and governments to offer health insurance to any wage employee that averages 30 hours a week. A final budget compromise will come next week and is likely to contain the language.

By ensuring no employees reach that threshold, the state estimates it will save $110 million a year that otherwise would have gone to provide benefits to workers and their families starting next year. Businesses like national pizza-maker Papa John's have threatened similar action."

President Obama wants to raise the minimum wage to help working Americans escape poverty. But just hiking the hourly rate by $1.75 to $9 won't accomplish that.

A full-time job paying $9 an hour works out to about $18,000 a year. The poverty line is roughly $23,300 for a four-person household.

So a married couple with only one person earning a $9 minimum wage would also have to take advantage of two tax breaks aimed at working families -- the earned income tax credit and the child tax credit -- just to barely nudge them over the poverty line. These credits are worth about $7,500 for a married couple with two children. After accounting for payroll taxes, these folks would wind up about $850 above the line.

Still, that's better than today's $7.25 minimum wage, or $14,500 a year, which prompted Obama to push for an increase in his State of the Union address on Tuesday. And the president wants the wage to be indexed to inflation, which would prevent its value from being eroded over time.

"Let's declare that in the wealthiest nation on Earth, no one who works full-time should have to live in poverty," he said."

SAN DIEGO — The gambling losses reached more than $1 billion. The former mayor of a major U.S. city appears to blame the spree on a brain tumor.

Maureen O’Connor acknowledged in federal court on Thursday that she took $2.1 million from her late husband’s charitable foundation during the decade-long gambling binge."

Somehow the idiot gamblers have the notion that they have a chance to get into easy street by playing with their money well if I don't have enough money why would I give it away and if I have enough money why would I give it away and if I have too much money why would I give it away? Casinos always win in the long run their cheating is built in their system. But like the good captain said, for those who they understand no need to explain and for those who don't undersdtand no need to explain for they will never get it no matter how you explain. Human are idiots.

Slammed by the payroll-tax hike, February same-store sales at Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) have reportedly been a “total disaster,” marking the worst start to any month in about seven years.

The report, from Bloomberg News, sent shares of the world’s largest retailer dropping more than 3% and pushed the S&P 500 to session lows.

“In case you haven’t seen a sales report these days, February MTD sales are a total disaster,” Jerry Murray, a vice president of finance and logistics at Wal-Mart, said in an email to other executives on February 12, according to Bloomberg.“The worst start to a month I have seen in my ~7 years with the company.”

Gas prices have risen for 31 days straight, according to AAA.

That means that the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline has increased nearly 13% over that period to $3.714.

It's hitting wallets right in the middle of winter, when people are already looking at large home heating bills. And it comes just after many Americans have been hit with smaller paychecks, and are worried about looming budget cuts that could deliver an even deeper blow.

Well that's in america but maybe the homeless still lives in cleaner environment than the slums on the 4th world countries which makes me wonder about your postion on population and birth control. Unfortunately the whole worlds economy thrives mostly on power not much on sensible social value and needs and hardly has anything to do with fairness. The world is still in a harsh environment despite all the advancement of human learnings. Human are still idiots.

Whether they're living in a cleaner environment, there are still 75,000 homeless in a given night.
