This is an honest thread out of curiosity. I have not been to Korea, so I can only go by what I've heard and what I've seen.
I'm completely aware that there is racism against all darker peoples in general in Asia, but I can't help but get the feeling and wonder sometimes if Korea has the worst problem with racism against blacks in East Asia. I have been to (mainland) China and have known plenty of other black people in China and the racism there seems more of a curiosity kind of thing from not seeing many blacks. Of course there are racist people there like anywhere, but a lot of them seem open on changing the stereotypes in their minds. I know several black people, older and younger, who have lived in (mainland) China for years now and enjoy it. Some work as English teachers there. I have known many relatives and friends who have gone to Japan and worked. Some have experienced some form of racism and gawks, but at least the some of the stereotypes in Japan seem to halfway work towards the benefits of blacks |

6 My old man served in the Korean army where the U.S soldiers used to interact with the Korean troops. Blacks view asians no differently to the way whites view us, ie- gooks. He told me how curious it was that even though we Koreans view blacks as inferior, these blacks equally thought of Koreans as inferior. So stop talking like your shit doesnst stink negro. We see the way you treat Koreans in America. THis is once again a black trying to act like everyhone is racist but him. Typical. |

1 I've always wanted to know when some blacks go to other countries weather they act like there the big wig or something. I'm black myself and when I go to a different country I want to set a good example. |

I have interacted with a few South Koreans here in South Florida, who were international students, and they were very courteous to me as a Black man. They were also very curious about Black American culture, particularly the music and fashion. I remember one of them stating how shocked and impressed he was with the economic and political attainment that Blacks have gained in the United States. Apparently, Blacks in Korea still viewed us a group mostly struggling for equality, and they tended to reference Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. a lot.

Chinese people or Chinese Americans have the same mind but on a different piece of land. If only you knew as we do that you are being fooled. I pity you for your judgement. In reality most Asians do not like blacks. Do you know many Asian Americans in any HS, Middle School hanging out with African Americans? NOT many. Just look in your own country to find the real truth. You don't need to travel or ask your friends. The older generation of Asian Americans beliefs about African Americans are passed down in some fashion. |

Korean or other FOB immigrants looking down on blacks in America is just wrong. Blacks have been in America for hundreds of years and have sadly died fighting in wars like the Korean conflict. If Koreans or Asians in America don't like blacks, go back to your own countries. America has enough racism. We don't need to import any more of it.

1 What Azn said is right you know, why are the white and asian always the racist, what about your own kind? "America has enough racism. We don't need to import any more of it.Korean or other FOB immigrants looking down on blacks in America is just wrong." Some Americans also lives in Korea, why do they need to go back?Why can't we live along peacefully? When a black person is mistreated they are always connecting it to racism. What if the he/she just really hates that person because of his/her personality or attitude, etc, don't link it to racism Let's live peacefully and help each other solve dis problem. When you close your eyes were are the same, der is no difference, why argue? We're made equal, It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye. - Little prince |

1 racism exists in all people and most if not all people have experienced racism. I am black. I have korean friends. some things they say - I can say are racist and vice versa. I love Korean culture, music, cinema, clothing, all of it. I don't fault korean's who are pissed at black people because they were dissrespected by a black person. I understand that events like that shape people's perspective and understanding. Some korean people say things about race or blacks in general that I dont like - that I get offended by...But I dont go hating all koreans I just try my best to kill the stereotype or educate them on a part of African American Culture they may have not seen before. Through tolerance, patience, and a genuine desire to kill racism - thats how we will fix the problems of this world we all share... |

That's a bunch of bull Lifeisshortnotim. What if it wasn't the black person's personality or attitude? I mean you act like black people go everywhere acting like jerks. Who the hell would go to a country where they're outnumbered to act stupid and scream racism?

we don't live in a perfect world where everyone gets along. but, you can't tag a whole nation as racist because of handful of individuals. that's just ridiculous. appreciation for other cultures and diversity is a good thing.

Seoul, Korea |
I've been living and working in south korea for the last 7 years. Racism is an institution in this country. It is in every corner of this country. The government policies maintain it, foster it, nurture it and ensure it exists for the next generation to learn.
|
|||
Rowie - are you in seoul? where do you work ? how is racism institutionalized in korea? how is it different from the racism here in America ? how do you think you race plays a role in the racism you witness/ experience? i know my questions are lengthy but its a topic worth discussing. thanks in advance. |

To all the conscious thinking people who are of african decent, be it from the US , the americas or caribbean - if you seeks to use your skills toward the betterment of mankind we must first look in the mirror and deny not what dosent resemble you! but strive , first to assist what looks like you!!! your skills and enthusiasm in your industriousness is needed in the english speaking caribbean, and the negros of central and south america whom are literally seprated from mass society ()in some instances and respective countries() in Africa - your skills are also needed and the peopls of need, who will assist and are of your hue will not spit on you - like some asians find pleasure n doing to people, or seek to undermind your intelligence, then figuritively stab you in the bak like our white anglo saxon albinos of america - take your skill where the quest to satisfy your alturistic thirst will be accepted , treasured and so very much appreciated by those in acceptance. In addition you will be bridging a stronger link with the diaspora of the west with that of the worlds' mother land- wherein we are the first, from the beginning to the check point of the continuum.

I have not seen a single black male Korean female relationship last. No doubt some do exist but each one (and I'm well traveled and lived many places) are rocked by infidelity, abuse, and violence. Based upon this, a successful black male Korean female relationship is an anomaly and not the norm.
