why are their no white countries in africa. why was that so inherently evil. I never really got that. The south africans were certainly more fair than the american's. they actually shared and integrated with the population more than anyone in recent history. It is bizarre that their fairness turned out to be their demise. Israel protects its borders and citizenship to prevent dilution.Destroying south africa was a real crime and politically popular in the US. No we have another african country in chaos - as usual. Good people but bad systems- more pain and suffering for everyone. Our payback is coming, we will probably elect Obama and get every affirmative action, race based law every dreamed of. Not to mention an acre and a mule - compensation for slavery is coming as well

Same reason many Irish people do not want any "English countries" (like Northern Ireland) in Ireland. Because Ireland belongs to the native Irish people and those who choose to embrace Irish culture. People who believe, for example, that English culture is preferable and superior to Irish culture should not live in Ireland. Those English people should go back to England, or change their outlook and behaviour - it's their choice.

Same reason many English people do not welcome Muslims who do not respect and admire English culture, who infact seem to hate English people and everything that they stand for but insist on living in England, instead of their home countries. Those Muslim individuals should go back to the Middle East or North Africa, or change their outlook and behaviour - it's their choice.

Same reason many French people do not welcome English people who refuse to speak the French language or Nigerians who think that they are entitled to impose their culture on French people. Those individuals should go back to Britain or Africa, or change their outlook and behaviour - it's their choice.

To live together, people have to have an agreed set of rules and principles by which their behaviour and interactions are guided. Without such a mutual understanding, we will have unnecessary conflict, free-riding, resentment and ultimately war.

If a group of people have been living together, according to their agreed rules and principles, for thousands of years and another group of people invites themselves into the former group's space, who do you think should compromise? If millions of Muslims walked into America tomorrow, would you be happy to switch to Sharia Law? If not, then you should be able to understand why African people want to live according to their own principles and agreed values?

I agree that white South Africans, in general, did more to integrate with the native South Africans than the Americans, Australians and Canadians. But raping a woman is not the same as making love to her - just because another guy you know raped, stabbed and murdered his victim.

Having said all that, I do have a problem with people who wish to enjoy the benefits of capitalism and democracy but do not wish to submit to the principle that the degree of individual responsibility taken by each person must drive the degree of individual power, reward and freedom that each person is entitled to. There are many such people who are exerting their influence on the ANC at the moment. Eventually the benefits they are after will find their way to countries like India and Brazil and the ANC will no doubt blame apartheid for that, instead of themselves.

Melkpie, how long have you lived or worked in Ireland for? How many Irish people do you know? I think I am in a better position than you are to say what the general sentiment towards the situation in Northern Ireland is.

Besides the "English-Irish", most people in the Republic are very bitter about the partition of Ireland, although they prefer to be "politically correct" about it. They have surrendered to the concept of British occupation of the North, after years of resistance, civil war and economic hardship but the negative sentiment remains and the IRA is still alive and well in the North.

Every year murders and beatings are attributed to the Republican dissidents in Ireland, although the IRA continuously denies any involvement. It's like South Africa's "rainbow nation" image: it looks good on CNN but dare you scratch too deep beneath the surface ...
