On the eleventh hour, eleventh day, on eleventh months 95 years ago World War I came to an end. Treaty was singed by Entente with Germany in a train wagon. When it started in July 1914 it was believed that it will last until Christmas, in December. It was called "a war to end wars". Germans and Austrians wished and planned the war for long time. Germans were telling Austrians to attack Serbia in 1912, and the Austrians were prepared to do that but Entente powers intervened. Germans wanted their "drang nach osten" and also colonies from France. Germans wanted the war with France and Russia. They knew that they are not ready to defend themselves. Germans were ready to start a war in 1905 during Morocco crisis but other great powers intervened. Austrohungary wanted to be complete master on the Balkans, Serbia and Montenegro stood in its way. Austrians knew that the anexion of Bosnia will deeply hurt Serbs and that they will be forced to react. There were numerous assasinations prior to that in Sarajevo. German Emperor Wilhelm II utterly despised Slavs and he thought they should only be slaves. Austrians wanted to enslave Serbia without a fight and to make Serbian army to serve Austrohungary. German Emperor also said that" if the Serbs cannot be made to so willingly then it ok to use force, that it is ok to bomb Belgrade until His Majesties will(Franz Joseph) is fulfilled". Wilhelm II to Berthold minister of exterior affairs of Austrohungary;" Slavs shouldn't rule they should be slave. It matters to show them they are mistaken". He called Serbs"villains and bastards, thieves, orientailsts, liars and without national dignity". There must not be any thought of equality of Serbs with Austrians and Germans. Serbs should be "tamed". He also despised the English and called them" complete scum". He later completely changed opinion about Serbia and our people. "To bad that little people is not on my side"- he said.
Allies(Entente) were:
France
British Empire
Russia
Italy
United States
Serbia
Romania
Japan
Belgium
Greece
Portugal
and others
Central Powers were:
German Empire
Austro-Hungary
Ottoman Empire
Bulgaria
and others

Well, there is at least one history book which doesn't comply with your conclusions, namely Paul Johnson's History of the XX century.

WWI couldn't have been avoided and its causes were multiple.

One of the most significant causes was the general mood among Western youths and their social dissatisfaction. Many young men in Western countries simply substituted rifles for guitars and went happily to war..

"Princip terorista, Apis sve znao"

Vašington -- Srbija iz vremena Prvog svetskog rata bila je nalik na današnji Iran, gde delovi vlasti sponzorišu teroristicke aktivnosti, kaže istoricarka Margaret Mekmilan.
